    Open pros on 105 look very dull though, some people want something that looks more modern. And if same weight why not?

  • A few months away via C2W, but starting to think about upgrades from the stock components.... not familiar with Ritchey gear - any opinions on what i should swap out?

    The groupset is fantastic you'll get 1000's of miles out of it. Upgrade-worthy bits are the wheels, tyres and saddle. Everything else will just be for weight savings or changing the cock-pit position.

  • yeh it was a bit cobbled together as first sunday we've done but should be a better turn out this sunday. thursdays are reliable for turn out and standard though. loads of mallets about now and probs bikes to borrow if you don't want to trash yours.

  • gizz i love your bike, i don't normally like coloured tyres but they look right with that build. the only thing i would change is the anatomic drops for traditional bend. bet it rides nice too.

  • Have been lurking for too long now, so time to lay myself open to the ridicule that I have come to expect on this thread. My titanium thing is due for a makeover - various parts on order including raw wheel ingredients for me to cook up on my friend's jig.

    I bought the frame about 5 years ago, on the cheap from some bike shop oop north and it's been built up as a fixed wheel ever since. It's apparently a Raleigh TI frame, no idea how this bike shop got hold of them but it cost me 350. You'll all probably (rightfully) slag me off for the multitudinous braze-ons (cable guides etc.), to say nothing of the derailliuer hanger and unaligned tyre labels but I didn't fancy my chances with an angle grinder (and I took the lights and bell off too)...

    Current set up is:
    ancient mavic g40 on no-name front hub
    mavic open pro 32h on white industries eccentric rear hub - a 16t sprocket is fitted
    hsc3 carbon forks
    deda zero stem - upside down(!) to gain some height as I foolishly chopped the steerer tube too short 5 years ago :-(
    3ttt bars of some description
    manky front brake with mankier dirty pads in that graunch the wheel with a graunchy noise
    selle italia saddle
    no-name seatpin
    random double chainset with one ring removed - a 44t ring is fitted.

    sitting on my desk is an Andel crankset in silver - yay velorution @ £42. On order is a 44t TA ring, another open pro 32h rim, a Suzue Pro Max hub to go with it, Alpine db spokes for 3-cross and a KMC chain.

    It felt so good buying parts again, after a long long period of abstinence

    nah, i love the ratio
    yes, i do feel that my knees are shattered after every ride and its a bit hard to cycle into the wind...but i love the top end speeds with this ratio either way and i hardly stop on the route of my daily commute

  • bad luck- High performance bicycles are made of thinner tubing, so the hole will be larger if the outside diameter is kept the same.
    As a result, a larger seatpost size is often a sign of a higher quality bicycle. This has resulted in a de facto standard of 27.2mm for high quality bicycles that have 1 1/8 O.D. seat tubes. Since high quality seatposts are widely available in 27.2, most high end aluminum and carbon fiber road bicycles also use 27.2.

    i had 50x15 165 cranks brakeless on my track bike which know is resting as my knees are... a reason for not using front brake was that i hated an idea of crashing and denting right side of downtube with brake caliper (where a cable shield housing is :{)... would love to get my hands on delta front brake as it would look rather nice :{)
