has anyone seen the speedo on Mare st that shows you how fast you are going then flashes up a smiley face?
IME these smiley face speedos read about 10% high when compared with GPS. I've never managed to light one up on a bike yet.

Including Eddie? ;)
Nah Eddie's on the ball ;-)
For the slate, me and my mate came down the Llanberis Pass (coming off Mount Snowdon) clocking at 58mph! My mate's a much better (stupider?) decender, overtook an audi TT and clocked 62mph Max.
There's a road by mine you can push up to 45mph if you have the balls to keep of the brakes on the bends, the speed limit is 30 though and I wouldn't even attempt it on a fixie!!!

dude, its 1.82 to the "e" not times 10 to the power of -8
and i think its presented as 1.82e x -8
e is approx 2.711.82x2.71x(-8) is **~39.56kph i.e. 24.56mph**
1.82 x 2.71 ^ -8 is a small number in the millionths. E on calculators/computers always means engineering notation.
I can understand why you are confusing engineering notation with Euler's number.

im surprised I even remembered any of this -

A police speed trap clocked me at 17 MPH once and were good enough to shout it as I hurtled past! On my geared bike I think it was 42 MPH (down hill) but was once clocked at 30 MPH on my BMX by a mate with his speedo.

im surprised I even remembered any of thisSorry but I am a bit of a bastard when it comes to numbers. Have a diploma in engineering science, 6 years since I done any proper maths though, so I get stuff wrong all the time.

You're not going fast enough. Break the limit and it flashes up a frown. :)

42.5, hills from Ditchling down to Brighton... Not a fg or ss though, my Allez...

50mph down a hill outside Farnham... though then occurred about what if I fell off?
Thinking about it, could this be Beacon hill? I think I hit around 42 here too... I daren't go faster, I'm a chicken...

I wonder if you cycle past speed camera at speed above 30mph - will it flash?

You need to present a high enough Radar Cross Section. I mentioned it a few pages back. There's a speed camera on a hill on my way back from uni and when traffic slows to 30, I can easily get past them at a high enough speed to set it off, but I can't actually set it off. I've often thought of carrying a big board on my back but then I've thought the drag would either stop me going fast enough, or stop me fitting in between the cars, thus defeating the point of it.

This should be better than a board.....

Too cute!
I'm actually going to ask my Avionics lecturer what he thinks would increase a cyclist's RCS enough to set off a speed camera. Purely in the interest of knowledge... I'll post my findings and see if we can get a few flashes?

mc_nebula - twas Beacon Hill and very scared I was too!

Pullled over by an irate policeman doing 35 in a 30 zone. That is 50 16 though.
What did he say to you? I hope he didn't try and tell you that you were breaking the law?

I think you'll need a bit of a margin over the speed limit to trigger the camera as well as a good RCS. I've been behind a tandem that's triggered the camera on the descent into Brighton. Very pleasing.

I have exactly the same thing on my way home from uni, still haven't managed to set it off, either have my mates, we've had times where we lead each other out and still no flash, think 37 is the fastest I've been past it. This is all on geared bikes mind, no chance on my fixed gear.
Both wrong as 1.819221216032059e-8 was my warp speed (although Eddie, you somehow fudged the correct mph, presumably from the mach no. elsewhere).
Went out for a ride earlier and got 28.8 mph out of it. Somehow managed to later hit 35.5 going up the hill in Greenwich Park!!!???
Target is to get the right side of 30 and then speedo goes in the bin.
Beam me up Scotty..........
