yeh true, it is only a car park at the end of the day so theres gotta be other places too, think its deffo the place to play on sundays for now though
-
• #128
yeah i was thinkin ste if you liked the open-ness of the car park we should just try playing in the open court in plat fields next to where we play already no? unfortunatley i dont have a broom for glass clearance..
-
• #129
yeh i've played beside the basketball court in that open bit but it is too open, it is open on almost three sides, and the ball roles under the fence of the dirt tracks.
just checked out whitworth after bumping into ste, it is perfect...apart from the rediculous surface which is like ice. it has too much moss growing and also the tarmac is cracked up preventing us from precision passing (likely, i know).
other than the surface it looks amazing, has it's own floodlights (weren't on though), it's damn near perfect. so frustrating. more importantly there's a shop for beer and fags about 20 metres away!
(i know many people know all this about whitworth as they've played there for years, this is for us rookies with the alu sticks)

Would some moss shoveling and sweeping make it any better? (Whitworth)
It was good to be able to dodge around the back of the goals, made for a more flowing game i thought.
-
• #131
if the armitage is lit up as ste says then im happy to get there early with a broom and help deglass the place - might see if a wiry broom is cheap from sainsburys
whos up for petitioning the council to repave the whitworth park surface? cause as snoops says it is otherwise the perfect place. even with moss shovelling etc its still gonna be pretty slippy.....
-
• #132
i think play at plattfields untill it gets too busy when it gets light, then play at the armatige centre and in the meantime try and do something with whitworth park, would need a generator jet wash and lots of water, or steal a fire engine :D

erm maybe except this one!
is it going to become a regular occurnace because you may have another player if thats the case.
-
• #136
sounds great, cya tomorow
-
• #137
For those who play fixed what gear ratio are you running?
-
• #138
i'm running 32/20, it's a bitch getting there and back but any higher on court and you'll find it hard in those tight corners and won't be as confident on those 50/50 balls.
i just need to get a 16t for the other side of the hub and it'll be perfect.
-
• #139
39/18
i dont think i need to go as low as snoops said but i have a coaster brake so i guess its abit different -
• #140
42/20 but I do use a brake as I have no skidding skills!

oh and we need to register for this innit...have emailed mat to find out when we can register so please think about whether you can make the date and about teams so i can send us all as one email so it;s easier for him to deal with
Dear poloistas,
We have a date! The EHBPCs will take place on August 1st & 2nd 2009, in
London. We look forward to some awesome tournament play from the best polo
teams in Europe and a riotous weekend for all.The current plan is that there will be 40 spots open for the tournament,
on a first-come, first-serve basis. London will be capped to 4 teams.
Entry will likely open on the weekend of the ECMC tournament (May 28th –
June 1st 2009). There will be a tournament fee required to secure a spot.
After lengthy discussion, we have decided to make this tournament only
open to European-based teams (we are relaxed about how that is defined). The date is confirmed, but there will possibly be some minor changes to
the format (our working plan is 40 spots; first-come, first-serve; 4-team
cap for London, but these details may get changed over the next month). We want to make this an outstanding event and a massive party. There will
be lots to do over the weekend even if you are not playing in the
tournament. Friends of bike polo are encouraged to come for the weekend to
see some great polo and more.We will have more details to come soon, but for now, save the date.
Please sign up at www.ehbpc.org if you would like to continue to receive
email updates regarding the tournament and pre-events.Cheers,
The EHBPC London Committee

and regarding whitworth park i struck a deal with oli lougheed about that court. he has now changed jobs but i do know the person that has filled his role.
i am gonna speak to her about resurfacing and the spotlights. also about painting the bricks with bike polo mural (oli said this would be ok but then it we moved to platt fields again for a bit and didn't bother doing it until bastard students came back and started playing basketball)

yeh I agree but games will be slower with the lack of boundary and we need to sweep it out.
so anyone got a decent wire broom? or many brooms? i'd be up for going down a bit early on thursday to get rid of all that glass and gravel.
i wouldn't mind trying some other places as well, i know of a place in ladybarn just behind edgerton road that would do, i'll have a look tonight and get back.
is whitworth really unplayable? wouldn't mind playing there some time.
