I've been following this thread with interest as I've enjoyed every single one of the dozen or so FNRttCs that I've done to Brighton (as well as the ones to West Wittering and Whitstable). Sadly, however, I've got to stay put in SE23 to supervise whatever my children are planning to do that weekend so I won't be able to join you guys.
There won't be any moonlight for you this weekend, but the usefulness of the moon is limited anyway, particularly where the route takes you through woods (the beginning of Slugwash Lane is seriously dark).
My experience of lights is that bright ones are useful but something like the EL530 is plenty if you're part of a bunch, and that you should think twice before using anything bright and flashy at the back as this will irritate the hell out of anyone following you (although they'll be too polite to tell you to your face) and there'll be very little traffic coming up behind you on that route.
Are you planning to use the service lift to get into the arrivals area at Gatwick? That'll be a laugh!
Have a great ride and give my regards to the Beacon.
