  • Sounds like a fair ending to me. Hope you heal up OK.

    Thanks man.

  • Blimey v reasonable outcome - given the cost to repair/replace a tailgate

As to the braked/brakeless discussion - fixed & braked seems to provide ultimate stopping power - I was side by side a braked fixie and when forced to stop, he did so almost on a dime, whereas I was using a freewheel had nowhere near as much control

  • I'd say thats a pretty good result - no way a rear screen plus fitting is that cheap, guess he'll claim it, and pocket the cash

  • i said a similiar situation, the similarity being that i couldn't stop in time. a car was pulling out of a restaurant and wasn't paying attention to anything other than trying to pull out in the street. i guess i'm not familiar with the law in the uk, but the law in most states is "have a brake that allows you to skid on dry level pavement" which means i'm quite legal.

  • Just in-case any you were interested as to the outcome of this...

I have just been to see the a3 owner and we have agreed that I will give him £195 for his rear wind shield and he will not charge me for his dented boot door... as he says "it wasnt all your fault".

    £100 on friday
    £95 next month.

Smashing my head into an Audi A3.......priceless.

Credit card advert reference intended :p.

+1 fair play for your honesty, hope the karma spreads.

Now go fix a brake to your bike. (And wear a helmet). (And don't RLJ). (And...oh this isn't C+?)

  • I wouldn't have paid £200 for the pic myself, but it is a good one. :)

  • Well done - Hope the head gets better soon.

well done, i think you probably did the right thing. As an FYI, if you join british cycling, you're covered for 3rd party damage even when it is your fault.

  • that's right illy, it's around £30 for silver membership, there's also the CTC ? which does similar cover.

people are happy to spend a grand up on some flimsy njs ware, another ton on a lock, 70+ on shoes to pose in, yet negate to consider this relatively cheap addition.

the cover is a great thing to have if you ride in traffic a lot, it's not carte blanche to ride like a cunt-on-a-stick , but it helps.

  • Cool. I have that, I never realised I was insured on the road too.

  • What a load of shit. Get a front brake. You're a danger to yourself and more importantly, to other people.

  • Good work man
Next time ride behind DFP and in case of emergency slam into him.

well done that man. I appreciate honesty and your karma will be well up.

Although I have basically no expeirence at riding brakeless, stick a bloody brake on your bike. It just makes sense. We all know you are cool even with it.

And, of course, the cover doesn't apply if you ride brakeless on the road, which is a somewhat pointless addition as I'm sure everybody already knows that, but just in case.

Not very likely, our mr aeronaught is bloody fast.

He pretty damn skilled at brakeless skid-weave round cars type manouvres as well, but I think the fearless daredevil element got the better of him. (ex-downhiller!)

Mad respect to him for not only making the epic crash & surviving, blogging that shit but also being wholly responsible and negotiating the pay-up with the car owner.

The money probably covers the excess and perhaps some of the no claims bonus.
