should have had a brake. Even if u dont use it ever just having it there is worth it for these situations. oh wait nevermind forgot brakes are not cool.

meh, from what I read, it was purely a mistake in his part, he judged the situation too quickly.

I hope the dude is ok. From the fact that he has written a blog seems to indicate that he has been extremely lucky and not suffered any serious injury. However, he should pay for the rear windscreen as he was completely at fault.

I have heard that your penis gets instantly 4cm smaller when you put a brake on your bike, is that true or just a rumour?

i never get this obsession with putting brakes on track bikes...
also i doubt brakes would have stooped. the second time i got hit it was in a similar incident, on a road bike and the brakes didnt much help. and by much i mean at all. -

its not an obsession its :
1 - the law
2 - sensible
3 - fine if you use your track bike on the track, then dont have brakes on it while on the track where last time I checked there are no big hunks of metal to cave your scull in or pull out on you. However if you wish to use a track bike on the road then try having respect for yourself, and the driver who might have to live with your death on their concious and put a front brake on your bike. -

Pros and Cons debate on brakeless riding on the streets anyone?
I don’t know, I may have to have a mental tussle with myself on this one.FFS, you've just mangled your face! And seem to have had enough time to try various options before crashing...sounds like enough time to engage a brake and come to a slightly less bloody halt!

you sound like a shit rider, "got hit" by a stationary car?
yes, I don't suppose any kind of brake would help the likes of you

"Fraction of a second" I think I wrote... and a brake would not have sorted my problem. I was basically riding too close to the driver in front. me = dickhead.
Never again ( touches wood ).
It is mad because you may do some crazy shit on your bike and get away with it for years then you have a 'blip'. This 'blip' has shook me... Although I honestly believe that a brakeless track bike cannot be beaten on aesthetics, My health and life are the most important things to me so I either: ride real slow all the time and take super care on the road or buy a fork that will enable me to put a brake on.
Hmmmmm.

Get a brake dude, looks like you were very lucky...

Was it like a flying head butt on a stationary car?
SAWEEEETOOO!Just ride to your limits, i always slow down if i don't have sufficient space ahead to stop or save my ass. but a brake could have put you over the bars and into the back of the car in front.
What ever way you had to flying head butt the rear window out. IMO thats rock and roll. why settle for wing mirrors and small scratches.!? -

Whatever. Just get that front brake on.

From what I understand about not having a front break is that most people get injured within about a week of riding without one. Its just madness, it really is

Mine fell off and I barely noticed. Didn't bother replacing it.

Reminds me of this one time I went straight through a library window on my bmx without stopping, I overshot a set of steps and slammed my brake on, but carried on skidding, right through the window, ironically I went brakeless about 6 months later, and rode for nearly 8 years without ever having a crash relating to me not being able to stop in time...weird eh. Thankfully I got away with just a single piece of glass wounding the back of my leg, and bruising my knee.

COULD have. If the rider is a frikin idiot. Brakes don't stop people being frikin idiots or just shit cyclists but they help.

unlucky mate hope you learn from this. i thought the whole mantra of NoBrakes was zen anticipation, knowing your stopping distances and the like. don't know if you've ever driven a car but it's basic first lesson stuff to know that you leave yourself a 2 second gap minimum between you and the car in front. pay for the window.
-
• #20
If you can't brake in time you are riding too fast for the conditions, if there are loads of Peds, cars, buses etc. Slow down.
-
• #21
but.....riding sensibly and not almost killing yourself is just not cool these days.

Does anyone have the contact details for the Darwin Award organisers?

Your a funny guy.
No seriously... Will I have to pay for this guys rear window? Do cyclists need insurance to be on the road?
I asked the cops these questions and they had no real answers... apart from " grey area that one kid".I am pretty sure if an uninsured car hits an insured car there is some kind of £££ available from the government or something to get the damaged car fixed up.
Is that true or am I spouting pure mouth excrete?problem is... I dont have any £££ to give this chap.
I am what could be called 'strapped for cash' right now. problem.
I went for a ride with some of my fellow Brummie non freewheelers today,
and after blasting down a long major road full of traffic I decided to have a 'chat' about emergency stops/cycle safety to my friend riding track bike sans brakes.
We ride back to our area together and split to our separate ways home. 2 Minutes later my mate does this:

P.S - Had to post this on the main forum mr aeronaught, its a proper manly crash innit!
