when i first moved to london my flatmate told me all bikes and motorbikes get stolen eventually. once there was a team in a white van which just cut bikes away from railings chucked them in the van and dealt with the locks later.
london has great diversity but part of that is the council estate next to nice areas. there isnt really anywhere that is safe, especially not a dark back street with no one watching a load of expensive bikes. i left my bike at work and as it's near the horseshoe and only recently bought a lock for short lock ups as my bike is such a thief magnet. looking into pitlock and other solutions as first night back from o/s i have my thompson post and bmw seat stolen from outside the george in the minutes between last drinks when the close the curtains and me finishing my drink and walking outside.
shit i even had a whole bike stolen from my shared hallway as my neighbour must not have shit the door properly.
it is an unfortunate fact of living in a big city.
i reckon pitlocks, glue/wax/ etc in allen key holes, more visability etc is the way forward. what rollapaluza did at kingspin was a great idea.
