  • bike shops you love/hate?

i have found them very very unhelpful and unfriendly.
they just don't seem to care.

  • ^^ +1
little sport in fairview - poor selection of stuff, but really nice people. they've fixed a few small things for free when i've been in trouble.

    great shop, really friendly people
    amazing bikes

  • City Cycles, in Cabra, my LBS.
Very nice guys indeed, couldn't ask for nicer people. Good stock, nice bikes and will order anything they can if they don't have in no problems.
    Highly recommended!

  • little sport is great but city cycles in fairview are rude bastards

  • I hope they have nothing to do with eachother....

  • I always thought cycological was grand, they ordered me some stuff and gave it to me for their suppliers price, i.e cheaper. They've let me borrow tools and fix my bike in store too, maybe just depends on whose workin. The old guys are cool. That one on parnell street is bollox, found them to be very unhelpful

  • Far and away the most helpful bike shop I've been in is Commuting Solutions in Rathmines. I haven't used a bike shop in Dublin for a while. Generally though;

Joe Daly, the actual Joe Daly is very unhelpful, but he's about a million years old and still cycles up through Sandyford every Monday. I'm assuming it's his son who works there (about 50) who is absolutely sound.
Cycological, every time I've been in there, have been douche bags.
Cycleways is about 50%, sometimes sound sometimes not so much, but generally a decent shop.

    Peace

  • weird i found it the complete oppsite cyclelogical wouldnt let me borrow an allen key and one time during a fixed session in town my friends chain was really loose and cycleways had no problem lending us tools, and they,ve fixed a puncture for me for free.

  • Cyclelogical are grand if they know you -I've no problem recommending people to go there, and the lads have always been sound to me. Cycleways I've found at best to not really care what they're doing, and at worst are downright rude.

Joe Daly has always been sound to be and Dave Tansey (the other guy that works there) is dead on and will sort anyone out!

  • Chap with glasses and piercings in Cycleways is a really top bloke, helped me out a lot and still stops to talk when I see him, guys in the workshop there were quite rude to me though, Cycleogical are grand aswell, they've given me a fair amount of free shit in the last while!!

  • Long time erik, yeah most of the staff of cycleways are really nice, the fairly young brownhaired Irish guy is very helpful and is always up for a chat about fixed gears, the Hawaiian(?) guy in there is also very helpful and nice.

  • Cyclelogical are grand if they know you

Exactly why I haven't been there in 5 or 6 years. I hate that attitude.

    Peace

  • yeah!

  • I've had both great and crummy service from Cycleogical. I like the Belfield Bike Shop in UCD.

  • anyone know any good ones for getting a wheel built? any idea of prices?

  • I paid €300 for front & rear track SystemEx/Formula/can't remember the name hubs on Mavic CXP-33's in Cycleogical, FWIW.

Probably not the cheapest, even if you went for cheaper rims, but Cliff is a decent sort and I'd had lots of recommendations.

  • I've found that the guys in Think bike's workshop are very helpful and don't give you any attitude.

  • where's that? ^^

  • i bought my saddle and pedals from cyclogical and have to say they're just ok. funny and nice at times and then completely uninterested f*ckin saps the next. i found cycleways helpful and sound, same for think bike. one lad up in pennysomething or other across from anseo was cool and repaired a puncture for free(put in a new tube)

  • Cyclelogical are grand if they know you

so what your saying is... they're assholes.. right!

  • so what your saying is... they're assholes.. right!

Not too me! Would always go in there first -always been looked after, and got some amount of freebies in there too!

  • Suppose they just like who they like, you go in expecting them to be assholes going in buying shizz not saying much other than complaining about the price and they wont like you like anyone else wouldn't.
Not saying you do that but just think, do onto others as you would have done onto you.
    Might help.

  • As above - Cycleogical sell high end stuff. Most of their clientele seem to drop significant amounts of money on carbon dentist machines. Fixed gear riders are unlikely to (a) buy in large enough quantities or (b) become popular to the degree that it's an important part of their business. But they're one of the only bike places (outside the net) where I can get tools & bits and pieces and don't have to explain what a fixed gear bike is.

In my experience, Dublin doesn't really have any bike shops with a focus on fg/ss cycling, certainly not to compare with the sort of places in London or the US. So, bearing that in mind, if you can find any bike shop where the staff are even halfway bothered to help you out, you're doing well.

    Make lemonade, people.

That said, if Tour De Ville ever look like opening a branch over here...
