  • sticker fun, this bike gets abused and comes back for more, I love it anyone who says bowerys are crap have never abused one the way I have lol

When you say "abused", how do you mean exactly?

I mean, look at those dop-outs........I've never seen drop-outs look so clean!

Do you abuse your Bowery in the Living Room?

My Bowery is so dirty and nasty.....its incomparable to yours.

  • my bowery is a dirty abused mess compared to that
    very nice first bike indeed
even if the geometry doesnt agree with me

  • Good point, you don't want an extra 30 grams on your bike!

Finally someone sees things from my point of view!

    =P

  • Here's my Bowery, covered in commuter junk:

  • Another Lager, literally straight off the peg from last week.

The seat is abhorrent, changing to black Brooks saddle (though the built-in bottle opener is a nice touch (!)), putting Conti tyres on (the ones that come with it are appalling), will prob change fixed hub soonish to something higher spec.

    Stickers coming off pronto too.

  • +1 for matching bike and barbell combination.

  • dont really like the color on that and i have a bad distate for the forks
otherwise i do like the Se range

haha that's been there since about 3 tenants before me... no-one can lift it to throw it away.

Might start a weights regime now I've got a matching bike though.

Agreed, forks are fairly 'meh', prob will get round to changing those mid-term. Main frame is basically a Fuji track underneath.

it gets used everyday, gets dropped and never gets cleaned, but somehow the drop-outs stay clean.

When you get a chance, post a pic which isn't so backlit (snow).

Interesting though. No chrome on the seat-stays, means you had the whole frame resprayed, plus added carbon forks?

Looks like a good workhorse though.

  • My Charge Plug

It was OTP at one point, totally upgraded now though, everything but the BB! Planning on a black chain, a better stem and I think it's finished then, finally!

  • if it had drop bars id love it

  • Here's my Bowery:

Bits I added to it were....

    Nitto RB-018 Bullhorns 38cm
    Velo orange stem 90mm
    Tektro 4.1 TT levers
    Tiagra 4500 brake calipers
    Charge spoon saddle
    SystemEX stem
MKS stream pedal/MKS clips/Kiwi cycles single leather straps
    Conti Gatorskins 23c

I am not going to do add anything more to it, possibly change the BB as its started to get a bit noisy.

  • FAO: Anyone with a Bowery
Just wondering, did anyone have problems with the forks creaking on them?? My boss had one, had a set o forks on it that creaked really badly & there was movement on the steerer, he phoned Giant & they sent him a replacement but this had the same problem. I think he had 2 sets of replacement alloy forks that did the same, then Giant replaced them with a set of carbon ones. Another guy at work had the same problem when he got his, Giant replaced his forks with a set that didn't creak. My girlfriend has a set of Giant carbon forks on hers as a relacement for the creaky stock ones, not fair!
Just thought I'd mention it in this thread rather than start a new topic about it.

I must says I didn't recognised it as a Plug! nice work, are you saving up for a Thomson stem then? leave the chain, there is such thing as too much black, unless you're making a stealth bike.

    Think it's time for me to post an update over the original one in the first page, had it not been chrome it would appear a lots worse;

the only thing that is standard is simply the crankset and BB, but everything else has been completely change (a found campagnolo seatpost in the back of BLB for cheap, old Nitto drop with bargain nitto stem, concor saddle, an NJS thick leather strap on sales from Condor, 105 headset, both tyres' gatorskin, front is an H+son laced to cheap System EX hubs, rear is a Velocity Fusion laced to System EX as well).

fork from an old road bike, the ride is slightly less zippy, but a tad more comfortable.

    Cripe! it didn't stay like that for long, since my Bob Jackson is coming, I'm already selling part from my Bianchi to fund the Bob Jackson, and now it's simply a beater (with new track fork, £5 Turbo saddle and a better front wheel for cheep like the bugies, even thought it got Miche hubs and DT Swiss 1.1 rim);

I wonder what will happen to it after I finish the Bob Jackson.

Fuck. I wish I knew they were so keen to replace these forks (especially with carbon). I've had dealings with big manufacturers in the past and it takes ages to get anything replaced under warranty so thought it would be easier and quicker to just replace them with a carbon fork myself. I might give them a ring in the morning and see what they'll offer me for my creaky originals.

In fact, I ordered a stem at the same time as the post but it's on back order & should be here soon! Then it should be complete! I'd love to get a nice old school frame, but at the same time, I love this plug so much I'm thinking of getting a second one!

When I first bought my Bowery, it creaked like crazy, not in the fork region, but in the seat-tube. I spoke to some other Giant users/owners and was told that this appeared to be a trait of Giant bikes/frames. The creaking stopped eventually (weeks later), and I stopped worrying.

As long as its been checked by a mechanic (or a bike shop), and there is no structural issues, I'd not be too concerned.

But if the creaking is that annoying, then of course, a change would be on the cards.

  • i would creak if you sat on me

  • i would creak croak if you sat on me
Yeah, I bet you would at that.

    Or even

i would creak squeek if you sat on me

    ;)

  • i would cream if you sat on me

there was a typo, i guess you're used to aussie keyboards.

  • Ed ...... can you go for 5 minutes without posting a photo of your bike???

    I don't think he can.

Anyway, we all love it, as its his love, and we're not (really) allowed to love his lady (or are we).

Next best thing eh? He's teasing us I think.

    ;)
