When I was boarding in Flaine last year, we were heading back at the end of the day - at the top ofthe final red run home were a couple of local yoot on fuck-off downhill bikes with studded tyres waiting for the slopes to clear before making the run.
Looked kind of incongruous.
I would love to have a go at this though...

i'm in Melbourne at the moment, and last week was prodigiously hot, it was 43.4, 44.3 and 45.1 celsius on consecutive days. our public transport failed too, because it was so hot the metal train rails buckled due to thermal expansion. also the air-conditioning units in the trains were conking out.
so it seems like quite the week for weather-related transport epic failures.

'Ello Chris. It's different riding in NYC, although I seem to remember that the first snows of the year last year involved alot of cyclists walking.
BTW, take care of John for me. he seems to think he's coming back here, but I know better.
After the trouble I had getting in? Im never leaving again. Fuck CBP. Youre right though. Riding here is different. But I think everyones just more used to snow. Although the other day, when I was trying to find polo in a snowstorm in the dark (which is sirprisingly hard when every street sign is covered in snow), this guy came up and said "youre riding your bike in this shit? Man. youre a hard ass motherfucker." Which only goes to show he has no idea of how much of a pussy I really am.
Incidentally, brakeless+ice+crossing williamsburg bridge is more fun than I ever expected. I didnt realise you could skid and accelerate at the same time. Stopping at the bottom on ice is a skill Ive yet to master..
