I got a Berghaus Axis jacket this winter and even though its a bit pricey (£200) I love it. It's totally waterproof, breathable and feels like it'll last forever.

Paramo Vasco..
Spiny, I was just going to post recommending Paramo. I had a Velez Smock that (before it was stolen) was the best jacket I've ever owned
Great advice gents. So with your experience would you recommend the Vasco jacket or Velez smock? Prefer the look of the Smock and think it might be a little lighter/less warm for fast riding?

FYI - for those of you who are looking for a new waterproof jacket and want one of the Montane H2O ones mentioned above, Chain Reaction has a small amount of Mediums and some XLs in Black for £35.

That's for runners though. It isn't cut long at the back.
There's a Velo, cycle specific one:

I am considering the three options below...
1 and 2 are lightweight shell type jackets. I know the Montane has receievd positive reviews (except for one - someone claiming the jackets loses it's waterproofing?).
3 is also lightweight, but has the option to remove the sleeves - useful for a summar high viz option. Anyone have one of these? Is it worth the extra cash?
Right now looking for something light, waterproof and high viz to get me through winter. Montane seems like the best value for money option (after Lidl).

I WANT ONE!The Velez has a new lighter version - the Adventure Light - good review from fast and light expert PTC http://www.petesy.co.uk/?p=751
Best price seems to be here:
I'm looking at one of these for Winter hills/mountains

yeah i saw that, but i think it's got a fixed hood which isn't ideal, looking for a removable hood so can have it off for riding and on for hiking...plus now fallen for the Showerpass...

anyone know how the montane featherlite holds up when you carry a bag every day? will a chrome bag which has quite rough material wear it out on shoulder and back quickly?

Not well. :(
Mine hasn't worn out yet, but the waterproofing has totally died (and I've only really worn it a handful of times). I've been in touch with Montane about it, and apparently it's affected by sweat - and of course, if you carry a bag all day, you sweat rather a lot. There's a chance washing it with NikWax might sort it, but NikWax isn't cheap, and when am I going to get round to doing a thing like that anyway?

Swrve FTW.
I'm thinking about getting the new Milwaukee ES Jacket when it's out over here. Chris @ swrve UK says they should be getting some in hopefully soon.
http://www.swrvestore.com/servlet/Detail?no=104
New features over the original Milwaukee hoodie:
the ES (extra-special) version features:
- hood with improved visibility
- extra-long armpit zips
- double cuffs for improved wind protection
- higher neck
- reflective details
- improved back pocket
-> side entry for easier access
-> single large duck-style pocket
-> mesh interior allows venting
- hood with improved visibility

The SWRVE jacket will still need reproofing periodically.

the milwaukee is great but plenty warm, i rarely use it for cycling unless temp drops towards 0°. It's great as regular jacket too though.

tokyofixedgear.com have nari furi jackets on sale.... who said that??
i have a nari furi and it is shit. completely not waterproof, not windproof, not breathable, slow drying the list goes on how shit it is from day one. I was actually thinking about reporting tokyofixed to the office of fair trading for misleading descriptions but couldnt be fucked in the end.
i've got an altura that's lasted me a couple of years now. been very good, very waterproof, lots of ventilation and i like the "tails" element of the cut. it's getting a bit tatty now so i think i'll order one of those montanes. they look great.
i'm def a fan of layers as opposed a thick jacket. three thin t shirts (one thermal on the inside and usually one long sleeved too) and a hoodie seems to do the trick even in freezing weather. if it's wet too then i just stick the altura over that lot. it's much easier to carry and extra layer or two or take one off than faff about with a big jacket.
