• That former street through Victoria Park has been a known ambush alley for years. We get reports of assaults there every season. Avoid after dark, especially if you're alone (but even groups of up to four people have been mugged there). Avoid especially in warm weather--assaults like this are comparatively rare in winter. Best wishes to Object and Em. You should be entitled to take the route you choose, but unfortunately that's the city we live in.

Administratively, Victoria Park in its entirety (after some minor boundary changes) is in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets . Like all the London Boroughs, this is an administrative entity that is rather artificial. London Boroughs were created in the mid-sixties through amalgamation of several London Metropolitan Boroughs (map attached), which had been around since 1899 and had been based on old parish boundaries.

Traditionally, Victoria Park lay on the boundaries between LMBs Hackney, Bethnal Green, and Poplar, so those associating it with (South) Hackney are not wrong at all.
