Hi all, just dropped by to say hello. I am new to the scene, trying to help my son (15) find a bike without busting his piggy bank and boosting the Evans Cycles shareprice. Yup, you can tell from my patter I am an old git (but still able to get out on my trusty MTB).

I'll be posting this up every so often from now until the big kick off in feb. If you want to add your name to the list just click on thread and do so. Look forward to seeing you all on the rides to beers
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread15291.htmlNew Members Compass Beer Rides: 7pm Departure Trafalgar Sq
Things we do well on this forum, organise and go on a regular basis to Drinks, wherever they may be, and Ride.
So in the spirit of these two elements, comes the all new,
New Members Compass Beer Rides. It has been noted that meeting up with a big group of forumengers that you don't know in a pub can be slightly intimidating. So to make it less so, this idea has been put forward to combine drinks and rides.
Think of it as a Forum Fresher's week, without the hazing, so that the previous months new members get a chance to meet up with, and ride with fellow forumengers. Talk bikes, find out where drinks are, and get a good ride in at the same time
You can come out to the beers closest to you, or trek out to a beers on the otherside of town, safe in the knowledge that you'll be with people who a) know where they are going, and that b) someone will be heading back in your general direction so you can ride home in the company of another forumenger. So For One Week, every couple of months, there will be rides from Trafalgar Sq, to the Beers,
**Monday - Souths @ The Coach and Horses
Tuesday - Norths @ The Flask or
Tuesday - South Easts @ The Kings Arms or
Tuesday - Trixie Dix @ **White's Row Car Park Roof. White's Row, Off Commercial Street
** Wednesday - Easts @ The Royal Inn on the Park
Thursday - Wests @ The Crabtree or The Ship (season dependent)
Sunday - Polo @ Brick Lane Polo Courts.**A couple of regulars from each beers will be at Trafalgar Sq from approx 6.30 for a prompt 7pm departure, (1pm for a 1.30pm departure on Sunday) And will take any new member who so wishes for a ride which will arrive at beers/polo.
The first Compass Beer Rides will be
Feb 16-23 2009.with provisional dates for the following being
Apr 6-12
Jun 8-14.So New Members start here, come down to the ride to the beers, introduce yourself to other new and regular members, get a good ride into a beers, enjoy a soothing alcoholic beverage in the soothing presence of your new found bike friends and get a warm and fuzzy feeling at being welcomed into the collective forum bosom.
Ps.
The meeting up and departure time could be bought forward by half an hour if enough people want to meet and leave earlier. That is all...

Hello all,
Just joined up so i could partake in the drinking... i mean cycling. I've been lurking for quite some time and just recently got hold of a tricross from pearson's, "fixed" it straight away. I have to say i thought riding fixed would be strange but it feels so much more natural, although i'm still giving puppys a very wide berth.
Gonna try and get down to south drinks tonight, unless one post's not enough.

One post is enough Blackbeard. Go and say hello to the south locals (I am not a local of the souths) they are nice chaps Im sure. Norths tomorrow as well if you fancy riding up a big hill (who dosent?)

Hi,
I've recently built up a cheap fixed wheel bike after not riding a bike for a while, exercise being a major factor. Decided I might as well try out fixed as I can't be arsed messing about with gears and I'm so unfit. However advantage of not riding any bike for a while means that fixed just feels how I imagine a bike to be so no trying to free wheel falling off incidents.
Just at the minute I'm using the quieter roads of SE London as a training ground. Getting used to traffic overtaking me, slipping through narrow gaps before taking on the Old Kent and A2. Hopefully when I feel I'm good enough I'll be able to make one of the social events.
shit - you mugged your dad!!
Looking at the setup he had clearly put some thought into that bicycle..
..you should man-up and buy your own cheapo bike to convert.
