  • Borwell cycles normally have some fixed rear wheels in stock, Cycle Republic can get them in normally within a couple of days

  • Has anyone seen the news about the chap in Dereham? Fell off his bike and died, bit of a mystery at the moment by all accounts. It's on the EDP website.

  • yo. I am a new single speed rider in norwich. Friends with 'Peterdoig'. Once we get our bike to a better state it would be nice to meet for a ride.
Have anyone been to Anglia Square at night?

  • our bikes fool

  • yeah anglia square, well lit, always dry. like a small velodrome with no slope no stands but good for slalom...

  • A while back I went all Richard Long and penned the NFG route:

    Possible Polo court location?

Doig I have a flipflop hub but the fixed side threads are stripped, but if you know a friendly welder(sculpture?)I have a 16T cog you could weld on to go fixed.

  • have just bought a pair of white charge dish rims, flip-flop. got them for 130 in the end.
    cheers though...
will be riding fixed at last this time tomorrow.
should have a meet soon? ride then drinks...

  • Yeah i'm from Narich. Hunnut. I'm working in London but will be back in town on the 21st for a few days before I leave to cycle around New Zealand. I'll be up for meeting and riding around town drinks etc. What about Friday night.

Check out UEA for good spots to ride. Loads of cool pathways. Has anyone thought about an alleycat? A wicked size town with loads of cool spots for check points.

  • Spotted dude on green frame; uea drive incline, this morning. You were powering past some old coyote on a hybrid, and we traded biker nods.
I had just brushed death with my fur a few minutes before, as a green hyundai driver had objected to my riding style-popping his horn vigoursly (I had Basteroids error del disco on my Seinheisers so his audio complaint went void). Realising the futility of his metallic penis he then pulled across the road to disable/kill the Snarb. I got quite tearfull, it was like being back in London.....

  • Hey guys, thanks for letting me know about this Snarb!
Didn't know the community in Norwich was quite so big, I've noticed a lot of nice looking bikes about over the past few months. I recently went over to the dark side and fixed up one of my bikes, I think I want a harder ratio as I can't pick up enough speed due to my legs going crazy! Guess I have to work on my technique also.
Sounds like people want to get together and ride... I've contacted a few people about a night ride one weekend. Can't do it this weekend because a couple of guys aren't free, but what about next weekend? Sat 24th Jan '09... Meet up about Midnight and have control over the whole of Norwich for a couple of hours.

  • fit sounds good. I haven't got a fixie back wheel at the minute, but it wont stop me riding single on a old 5 speed wheel!

  • sounds good... Definitely up for next saturday.
An alleycat. would be interesting, i have only been in norwich 4 months...worth a ride,
get to the know the city a little differently too.

caleb, what do you have planned for new zealand?
thinking of going on another cycle trip this summer.

  • is everyone on the NFG facebook group?

  • Wicked i'm up for a night ride around Norwich on Sat 24th. If it's doesn't piss with rain. I know the city fairly well so I would be happy to forge a route. Dare I say it shall we start a list.

Sat 24th Midnight ride. Meet at? Pub like The Fat Cat.

  • Sounds like a good spto to start from. Would be really cool if you do work out a route! Otherwise we'll just have to not lose anyone, and that might be difficult with all the different levels and all that. I for one am a bit timid on my fixie as I am still getting used to no brakes. So I might take it slower than some of the hardened riders...
I'll sign up to the NFG now, haven't got round to it yet.

Maybe we should say, if it's pissing down with rain then call it off without having to ring everyone up. If it's a tiny bit of drizzle then that's okay/good with me. I like the long wet skids.

  • fat cat saturday night. done.
new wheels today, only single at the moment though.
need to find a cheap ring and locknut soonish. any ideas in the area?

  • also saw a fixie in town today near the art school.
specialized langster i think...front and rear brake! sweet

  • Whats all this FacePoo rubbish?

    I'll check it out

  • I've seen a few nice Fixies in the area recently, who's is the Chrome one that's always parked near the Birdcage? I like it, nice looking bike.
PeterDoig: I bought a myself a nice Surly 16 from Streetlife (opposite fatcat), it was £18ish.
I think Freemans does them nice and cheap.

  • Best shop in Norwich for fixed stuff? I'm trying to sort out a crankset and will be in town Saturday. I'm out in the sticks near the Suffolk border. Can't do Saturday night (but curiously am supposed to be at the Fat Cat monday evening!). Some other time.

  • I'm off tomorrow morning to Newcastle. So far I've failed to meet any of you for a ride, but I'm back in four months, so I'll try and catch up then.

  • Norwich fixed shopping update. Cycle Repubic (owned by Halfords) in city centre expensive wank-parlour with little of anything except Dura Ace. Unless you need a tube in a hurry mid-city.

Pedal Revolution on Bether Street. Bloke in there called Marcus knows a lot about fixed and was quite happy to spend a lot of time showing me hubs and stuff.

    No, I still don't have a crankset!

  • I've bought a bike from Pedal Revolution before - very good service. I didn't know that CR was Halfords.

  • I grew up in Norwich. Nice city for a relaxed ride. Also the city center empties out at night so its a great one to slalom around.

I don't suppose you bothered to even think about asking then, otherwise you would have found that they hold some fixed bits and can get almost anything within a couple of working days. How many shops in East Anglia do you think carry fixed cranksets? the call for them is very very limited and not good business to tie up money in gear that may or may not sell this year. May I suggest that you try ordering one or look on ebay etc

Yes they are owned by Halfords, however each member of staff is an avid cyclist, one is an ex pro racer, one is a 2nd cat racer with Olympic cyclists in their family, the mechanic used to turn a spanner for a couple of pro/am teams (mountain bike and roadies) so sorry but I think they know more about bikes than most who go in there.
