  • it's a total sell-out. in fact, it's the very definition of sell-out. there is no question whatsoever that he has sold out.
He has whored his Artist name, his brand, everything that represents his music to a big company to sell some shit shoes, because they gave him a big bag of cash.

Or, to put it another way, he sold-out.

I'm pretty sure dj Shadow has been into sneakers for a long time like a lot of artists.
So if someone who has a footwear fetish is given the opportunity to put their name to something they have an interest in (and lets face it, there wouldn't be much point in using his actual name) without it affecting the thing he is known for...in this case music...how is that selling out?

His name doesn't represent his music at all....his beats, his loops, his keys....represent his music. His name is simply a stamp that shows the person that made it...If he changed his artist name with every track he made it would still be his music.
Prince changed his name...but not his music...just like plenty of other artists.

A person is free to use their name for ANY project they have an interest in...even if the interest is solely money...if it doesn't change the way he does what he is known for then it isn't selling out,

I always find it ridiculous when people stop buying a certain kind of music or a certain brand of clothing, even though it still sounds or looks the same just because it suddenly becomes popular.

I'd say it's the fans selling out...NOT the artist.

But as usual....each to their own opinions.
