last night i got home in a really good mood having had a few drinks and cough cough well feeling pretty good anyway. i got in full of the joys of spring and feeling goodwill to all men etc. then the girlfriend wanted to watch x-men 3. okay i can deal with a bit of mindless popcorn entertainment i thought. 10 minutes later i was squirming and gnashing with pained angst. what a pile of utter utter shit. i don't like superhero/comic films at the best of times but this took, pointless, dull, po-faced, cliched and joylessly ridiculous to whole new level. every line was a ridiculous movie cliche. i found that lying there with my eyes shut trying to get to sleep to block out the horror, that i could predict half the dialog before it hapened. just shit shit shit.
watched terry gilliam's tideland last week. that's creepy, rambling and self indulgant. awfull.
only film i've ever walked out of the cinema from was jersey girl. horrible, horrible film.
as for lost in translation. i agree that the casual "comedy" racism sits really uncomfortably with me too. really annoyed me when i first saw it. it's a huge ugly stain on an otherwise simple, sweet and beautiful looking film. real shame.
