  • Maybe put this thread in private?

  • since this is number to thieves we're talking about, don't privatised it!

  • do you even know he's a thief?

  • list them here. (you need to be confident that they are probably a thief).

    1. mr smooth ride. 07904561172

I reckon you should swap 'probably' with 'certain beyond doubt'.

    ?

  • If I were getting lots of unwanted calls on my mobile first thing I'd do would be to search the internet for my mobile number to see if it's out there somewhere.

  • how did you get it Fred?

  • fred, i think you're wrong to do this, you have no evidence that that bike is stolen, i admit it's dodgy. However, publishing someone's phone number under a list of theives is a bit off. Don't turn it into a witch hunt.

Are you confident that he is probably a thief? see what you did there, confidence with a bit of uncertainty mixed in. If you have proof, go to the cops, if not, don't demonise.

How would you feel if you saw your phone number under a list of "Shit photographers" or "Peeping Toms"?

  • numbers from gumtree and this can be a summary from the stolen bike's thread. happy if peer pressure means that a number gets dropped from the list - eg. general opinion is that the number isn't from a bike that was stolen. I'll ask VB to change the thread title to possible bike thieves phone numbers. now quit polluting this thread with middle-class hand-wringing.

I'm so glad. I'll pop out now and make a lovely cup of tea.

  • Gabes has got it right.

*"probable bike thieves phone numbers*" only exposes a lack of irrefutable proof, which you absolutely need before you tarnish people's name.

  • brave.

  • what are we supposed to do with the numbers? does it depend on class?

it actually happens a lot i'm told to wedding photogs. but see previous post - peer review...

  • my wedding photog was useless, his phone number was 292 in the village i was born in.

I guess if you have a number for a person who is selling a bike you are interested in, you could check on here to see if the number is listed and therefore the bike is potentially stolen.

Or, if your bike gets stolen you could ring all the numbers on this thread and ask whoever answers the phone if they stole your bike.

Obviously this could only work if there's a few more numbers...

(I'm not suggesting this is a good idea, merely stating how this COULD work)

  • i think this thread should be stopped

  • OR

simply report the stolen bike to Gumtree, sorted (i think).

  • fed up with professional thieves funding their lifestyle by selling stolen bikes on gumtree. this could be an quick / easy way to check whether the person selling a bike has a history of flogging stolen bikes. how is it different to the stolen bikes thread or neg feedback on ebay?

  • how is it different to the stolen bikes thread or neg feedback on ebay?

Neither of these necessarily involve accusing identifiable individuals of committing a criminal offence.

  • mr smooth ride isn't his actual name.

    grow some balls you lot

  • Neither of these necessarily involve accusing identifiable individuals of committing a criminal offence.

. . . and then supplying personal information in the way of a phone number.

  • how is it different to the stolen bikes thread or neg feedback on ebay?

because you are accusing someone of being a thief when you have absolutely no evidence whatsoever. Maybe i'll post your number up on some anti-pedo forum and see if you like it?
