Why do you people have a problem with this?
-
• #78
I love it. I just noticed it wasn't rocking any foot retention.

How can you stop with no brakes and no foot retention?

"The frame uses the same tubing as our high-end bmx frames and shares the same seemless, double butted CR-MO Heat-Treated tubing. What that means is that it's strong but probably also HEAVY AS FUCK"
that's more like it.
i think the frame looks quite nice though.

They are favoured by car park dwelling trick riders.
But you can skid easily without foot retention by tucking your foot under the pedal. The only time I rode brakeless (forced to due to lack of parts) I had no foot retention, was fine though.

which is REALLY easy to do in traffic when you're dodging buses and minicabs in the rain after a couple of pints.
it may be fine for empty car parks and slow rolls to the off-licence, but it's pretty retarded for serious city street riding.

What makes you think its heavy badtmy?
Theres been a huge weight weenie craze in bmx for the past 5 years, theyve really honed top precision engineering & lightweight bikes.
Thinks like the charge plug are plain gauge, thick walled generic tubes, not even crmo I think.
Seamless double butted crmo steel is top stuff.

well, generally if one CR-MO tubeset is stronger than another of equivalent alloy, it means it contains more steel.
which make it heavier.
i'm sure BMX tubing is ace, but it might be over-engineered for non-BMX use. "lightweight" is a relative term.

it appears the frame weighs a similar amount to a plug (both around 2.5kg). which is about half a kilo more than a Steamroller (according to http://www.londonfgss.com/thread1175.html)
let's face it, this Volume is going to be bomb-proof.

Charge use Tang plain gauge for the plug. It is a cromoly, not a hi-ten steel. Anything below 4130 (basic cromoly) is basically shit for bike frames (hi-ten included).
When BMX companies talk of lightweight advanced cromo take it with a pinch of salt. It's all relative and it's not a high-tech industry.

I am well awear of a Jamaican skid, but you still have to get to the car park.

Agree, I had a BMX last year that was just over 20lbs yet no sacrifices in strength.
Saying that, if the Volume is 2.5KG then that is on the heavy side.

someone came to Cavendish Cycles with a fully build Volume Cutter, it look really decent.
-
• #94
watch out on the tax
i got sent a bill six weeks after i recieved my stuff...hmm, didn't realise they did this. I was chuffed because I only had a Parcelforce fee (about £18 I think) to pay on my Gangsta.

twas sano. and yes, it looks very good

oh it was sano, shit I didn't recognised him!

I've been riding the Volume since December and I really like it. It's not going to win the 'most lightweight bike' prize anytime soon, but it's exactly what I thought it would be - strong. The fork is fine for every day use, but it does ook a little weird compared to the fat BMX tubes on the frame, so I changed it for a £10.99 Handsome Dog MTB for from eBay which is much more suitable for tricks and I have bigger tyres on it as well – 32mm front and 28mm rear.
Purists are going to hate it, but for tricks and general dicking around, I love it.
-
• #98
why the thicker front tyres thought?
-
• #99
thats a mtb/bmx thing Ed.. bigger tire on the front to aid grip and stuff
-
• #100
I'm aware of the advantage of a thicker gripper front tyres, just didn't see how it is an advantage on 700c that all.
i got those:
they're awfully cheap on the us-bay...
