I seriously considered getting one for my current bike as I never intended to run gears and certainly don't need 9 on the rear (Though I would now just so I could run an X.0 rear mech) but in the end it came down to a question of longeviety, the standard hub has more uses and a more versatile bike is more likely to get used (especially considering I no longer live in the dales).
If, however, I was building an SS 29er I would either run the hope trials or a king SS hub. End of.
