Long, wool hiking socks in loose fitting shoes. FTW!

sealskinz are great, the merino lining means they can be worn for a couple of days without neding to be washed (ie worn for the riding but not all day). nb they are not windproof, so overshoes may also be required
Couple of days? Days? Surely you mean weeks?
Mind you I was in a lift once and realised I could smell my own feet. -

So which socks don't cost a mint and don't fall apart after 3 months? For summer wear are people still rec'ing merino for the ride? I guess I could, and then bring a pair of socks to work. Yet one more thing to pile in the dang bag.
Speaking of....I need a new bag. /derail

bump!
I am considering the trainers + waterproof (water resistant?) socks combo.
What's the general verdict forum? -
• #42
guilty (unless wearing spandals and waterproof sox)

I am considering the trainers + waterproof (water resistant?) socks combo.
What's the general verdict forum?Go for the knee length ones. Ankle length ones mean rain and splash runs down into the socks too easily, knee length are better for this.

DeFeet socks are the business: the Veloflex of socks. They fit perfectly, they last forever, they look great. My daisy pattern ones have had more compliments than anything else I have ever worn. One pair in summer, two or three in winter and Sealskins for when it's freezing.
Hey, wiganwill, do you fancy getting together and spit-roasting some Defeet socks. I'm fucking horny for them too.
There's a particular model that's now the only sock I wear. On bike. Off bike. Period.

ofcourse you don't but conversely I also would not want a big heavy boot like to lug around. Hell when I go walking up hills I don't want to wear big heavy boots, much less so cycling.
I got some Gieves & Hawkes socks for christmas ;-) Not really cycling specific mind...
