Well it was frosty.
Tread does not make a difference on the road. A Wider tyre can arguable help a bit but as I said it's standard you can't ride / drive / run in the same manor when wet or frosty as you can in the dry. Even people who live in Canada or Sweedeb who run studded tyres have to take it easy. The studs improve the situation over no studs but it's still slippery.
