  • Quite a lot of people on the bridges ride thread ...

    http://www.londonfgss.com/thread10714.html

... were keen on a night ride to Brighton still this year.

    Current plan:

    Definite:

    1. mmccarthy
    2. Oliver Schick

    Possible:

    1. Emilia?
    2. Texas?

Based on what mmccarthy and I would prefer, the current idea is to leave Friday evening (5th December) @ 10pm from Hyde Park Corner under Wellington Arch, get to Brighton in the middle of the night, perhaps 4-5-6 hours with decent riding and not too much stopping, so 2-4am (a train goes back to London at 3am, and then loads from about 5am onwards), visit a 24-hour cafe to be found by Guerillaphoto and then perhaps ride back, which I'd be keen on if I have company.

Please, if you want to come along, let us know beforehand, if you just turn up we may well miss you!

Route most likely to be a tried-and-tested route largely avoiding main roads, used on forum rides before.

  • ok I might do this instead of the night ride as I live in Brighton.hmmm will see what I can do.

  • my vote, make it a week later.
    having said that:

    1. mmccarthy
    2. Oliver Schick
    3. eyebrows
  • If you are going round horsham/crawley way I might ride half way with you. I'll confirm when the route is planned.

  • my vote, make it a week later.

I'm going away on the 10th, which is why I suggested next week-end. But there's obviously nothing stopping the ride from happening on the 12th/13th, it would just mean that I couldn't make it.

An outside possibility is of course to do it on two consecutive week-ends but that would reduce numbers.

  • If you made it a week later I'd be more inclined to take you up on the offer as I'm having a pre-christmas dinner thing that day/night with some uni friends

  • have you considered how people are going to get back??

  • Wahey I didn't even need to put myself on the list, just thought i'd post to say that i'm up for it no matter what, if we're going via Glasgow that's fine with me =P

Should be a great ride, really looking forward to it =D

  • have you considered how people are going to get back??

Some form of 2-wheeled transport? =P

I'm sure you could take the train though, say we leave at midnight, get there after 4 hang around chatting for a bit, you can get the first train i'm sure.

  • does not bother me as I live in Brighton so will be basically riding home

  • have you considered how people are going to get back??

No, not yet. Personally, I am thinking of doing there and back if I get company.

It's all a question of timing. There probably won't be anything open in Brighton where people can warm up if we arrive before civilised hours. I think it would be reasonable to expect a slow ride to take about six hours, so if we left quite early that could mean that we might be in Brighton in the middle of the night. In that case, there's probably nothing for it but to turn around after a short break. If we left quite late, say midnight, we'd probably arrive around the time when the first trains go back. I'll have a look at train timetables now.

  • There is at least one 24 hour diner in Brighton

  • hmmm, I will look around but yeah there are plenty of places open late in Brighton.

  • It might be grubbs which is open all day but I can't remember for sure.

  • early morning greasy spoon by the beach perhaps?

  • There are trains from Brighton to London at 3:50am, 5:24am, 5:50am, 6:04am, 6:10am, 6:14am, 6:24am, 6:49am, 7:07am, etc. so that seems to be easy.

Cool, that sounds good. Local knowledge FTW.

  • Just realised i'm on Pajamas' Brick Lane right the night before, this is gonna be abso-fecking-lutely awesome.

  • Just realised i'm on Pajamas' Brick Lane right the night before

Me too! This is assuming that people do want to go ahead with the 5th.

  • to be honest I might do both

  • to be honest I might do both

    Get on the list! :)

  • Just realised I won't be able to do it anyway.. I have rugby matches every saturday until the 20th, not to mention the aforementioned crimbo dindins

  • Great idea, wish you were doing it on a Saturday night.

    Bit short notice though.

I wouldn't have any objections to that, I just thought that quite a few people might be at the Fixed mag launch. Note to self: must find thread to confirm that that's taking place.

    Bit short notice though.

True. I confess that I was waiting for someone else to start a thread and took my eye off the ball.

This is as far as it's got over there by the looks of it:
