The Dumb Method

Buy an old frame with nothing fitted to it, casually thinking that you'll pick up the "bits and pieces" to build it up for a few quid. £350 and a lot of parts later that you hadn't budgeted for you'll have a nice bike but be skint and have the wife breathing down your neck about what the hell you're buying for it this time....!

Or even, in my case, all of the above, but remove good nick Dura Ace BB/HS/crankset which were attatched to the frame you bought, in order to get respraying done. Put in sainsbury's bag in store cupboard at work intending to either use, or sell on. Then Buildings manager at work decides to bung said bag in a skip.
