  • morning Khy...

Ive been up hours, I have nocturnal tenancies ha! how abt u?

i passed out drunk at my mates house after welcoming him back and picking up my bmw, then rode home at 5am with it and havent been able to get to sleep, should try, gotta get up in 2 hours!

  • No one wants to donate a substantial amount of real cash to a bunch of crusties with rich parents who want to live out some kind of "hardcore" lifestyle pootling about the streets on a bicycle and failing to get a *real *job.

Um, do I even have to say that I know alot of couriers who actually use this job to help support THEIR parents? Or would that invoke an "all these foriegners coming over here and stealing our jobs" sorta rant?

I actually can't think of a single courier that I know who was well off growing up. I know I do this job because I love my bike and am actually not qualified to do anything else, so when I get knocked off by a lorry I won't be being supported by my dad (un-employed) or my mom (night nurse at a prison, but off sick due to cycling related injury (She snapped the tendon in her thumb when she fell off, jesus, can you belive that? Speaking of feeling bad for encouraging people to cycle)).

Anyways, there are alot of really fantastic charities to give to, the LCEF is one of them.
There is also oxford cycle workshop, technically a business but they don't really make any money and they do sell re-stored bikes really really cheaply and teach people how to fix their own bikes for nearly nothing.

If you don't mind money going to an American org than there are a few places that fix a load of bikes and send them to rural Mexico or Ghana. I think the Mexican one is Bike not Bombs, and the one in Ghana is run by Bike Fix, who I used to volunteer for in Seattle.

I've had things happen to me before with boys I really liked but didn't want to be involved with, it is both touching and hard, good luck with him. He sounds like a keeper, but don't try and make yourself have feelings you don't have.

dont keep me in suspense! u happy with it all? actually...go to sleep , message me later if u can !

  • I built up a BMX for a girl I wasn't even interested in, sure it wasn't brand new, but all the parts were worth a fair bit when new. I think you're reading too much into it...

  • Jeez, talk about dredging up ancient history.

    Quick update:

The guy -- for the sake of our emotional wellbeing, we agreed to stop seeing each other a few months ago. Our only contact now is through SMS and e-mail.

The money -- part of it has been donated to pay for a schoolteacher for a little village in Laos that I cycled through recently. Still haven't decided what to do with the rest. [Edit] Forgot to say... some of it went to the Atheist Bus Campaign as well. RAmen.

The bike -- we're still together, and we haven't lost that lovin' feeling yet.

  • it was koens, it was koens miss!!!

  • @DFP - watch yourself mate, that sort of talk isn't going to make you many friends.
@ miss attack - well said..
@ Roxy - I think 75% is a bit low given there were only 3 girls four years ago when I arrived...and both the other two were world travelled messengers.

so what you're sayin is... the bike aint single?

belle - yeah love it! well as much as i can by only being able to look at it and pick it up and not actually ride it, but it's gonna be sweeet...

    HAIL HIS NOODLY APPENDAGE!

  • i agree with pajamas there... although you guys were tight and all, it's still kind of an excessive move at that stage of the game, i am very glad you offered to pay him back/donate the money.

hm and i actually got a bike for my ex for his birthday last year, albeit an around town yardsale cruiser (we were living in a smaller town), but a bike nonetheless. and that was the only boyfriend i've had who rode a bike at all so i guess i am in the <25% bracket, if that matters anyway.

but what i really wanted to say, cg, besides thank god palin's not in the whitehouse, is that harry aka the joker works for an organisation, the name of which i just cannot remember, that takes old bike parts, makes new builds out of them, and takes them to africa. he just moved to berlin to open a new branch there and there is one in london as well. the whole thing is non profit and all that stuff, and harry doesn't even get paid.... if you still have money left i would suggest maybe pm-ing him! hope you are doing well! :)

  • belle - word of warning - you need to get an integrated headset, ged is hooking me up, a bmw seatpost as well... so speak to him, number on bmw uk site...

all - it's my favourite thing to do to avoid work, download music, read blogs and dredge up peoples old posts i haven't read yet - see ghost bikes...
