Hi there. My name's John Mark and I live in Brooklyn.
My job is sending me to London for a few days in mid-December and I just noticed that I will be staying over a weekend and that it appears Virgin Atlantic will let me bring my bike for free... So I'm going to ride down to Brighton and back for an overnight trip and meet up with an old friend living down there.
I'll likely be checking in again for advice closer to takeoff, but for now, hello from Brooklyn! I'll either be riding this guy below or a touring bike with a triple up front. Any suggestions for gearing?

65-72 gear inches is good for Brighton depending on your weight/strength. Brakes also very good.

tries attachment..
That's a beauty. And it looks like it's just about perfect in terms of size (standover height is utterly irrelevant when it comes to bike sizing).
Don't sell it as you'll regret it shortly afterwards.

Jesus CHrist man, how much are smokes in the UK? They are almost $10/pack in NYC. Less out of state, but I don't think I would save you too much money...especially after my portage fee.
Thanks for the gear inches recommendations. I will probably be keen to ride the touring bike since I will just be building it up next week...

Your avatar seems to be doing a good job of that on it's own.

hello
i want a new bike.
was tossing and turning between a fixed gear and a 'touring' road bike.
whats the pros of a fixed gear?
id be looking to use it to go to uni, weekend rides etc. if i wanted to go on a decent ride, 20miles + would a fixed gear limit me?
i live in brighton btw. fairly hilly.
tom
