if you have to ask what cog-down means, then it isn't for you.
The first rule of cog-down is you don't talk about cog-down

I recently came across the term "cogdown" in relation to fixed wheel cycling. I have checked Sheldon Brown and google but cannot find any definition. Am I missing something by being ignorant of cogging-down? Should I cog-down and how?
Thanks

I only ever cog-the-fuck-down for winter.
I am going to cogdown from 48/14 to 48/15 (maybe 16) - which of course means I am all set for the spring cogup.

It's a bit confusing for mere commuters like me. You 'cogdown' to a cog with more teeth but your legs start to spinup more. It's too much, my head is hurting.

Those are the conundra of the whole 'cogdown' & 'cogup' process.

Yep !
48/14, but I have just today gone for 48/15 to see how I get on, I tried 48/16 last year and just found it too spinny - no joke, I have always preferred pushing a big gear.

I think 16 maybe a tooth to far for me, I will see how I like 48/15.
I can't wait for spring so I can 'cogup' after the winter 'cogdown'.

seriously Tynan, do u ponder around London in a 90+ gear inches.. ?
Has one of your knees exploded yet ?
My god... Pentonville Road must be impossible unless your muscles have been replaced by hydraulic actuators. -

That's just as made up as 'cogdown'.

I do !
I think it is just over 90, (90.5 or something like that).
Although like I say, yesterdays strip down of the bike included a Winter 'cogdown' - I am now on 85-ish (48/15 - 23c tyres) - I will see how I get on, but don't rule out a pre-Christmas 'cogup'.
Has one of your knees exploded yet ?
My god... Pentonville Road must be impossible unless your muscles have been replaced by hydraulic actuators.Just point the bike at it and spin up the hill, not easy, but not so difficult.

Ha ! Caught out, yes it is more lexifraud !
I think the correct plural of conundrum should be simply 'conundrums' (?) but conundra sounds much better.

Cogdown is the furry accumulation one finds on one's cogs when one is lax with one's ablutions.

My god... Pentonville Road must be impossible unless your muscles have been replaced by hydraulic actuators. At last, progress!
3 months ago I discovered I was a pussy due to my inability to scale Highgate and Muswell Hill and promptly mocked over on MT. After 3 months couriering I'm now zooming up Pentonville road on 48/14, I might not be a pussy for much longer Hoorah!
