  • This guy does tub repairs:
    http://www.tubular-repairs.com/

He's repairing one of mine at the moment.

    +1 photos please.

Iv bought pairs of good quality tyres with tubes from ebay for less than some of those repairs.
Infact, iv had car and motorcyle tyres repaired for less.

  • ^Fair point.
But I didn't say he was cheap!
Guess it depends what you need doing and whether the particular tyre is worth it.
I had a valve problem on an NOS unused tub and I didn't think I'd be able to find a matching replacement.

@Smiling Buddha - thanks for the photo.
Nice bike - wheels look great too - what are the rims and hubs?

  • .

  • they are 'fucking idiot' NOS Nisi Corsa Stretto rims on 'look at that fucking berk' NOS C-record
same as these near as dammit - http://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Catalogs/pinarello89/3.jpg

  • Thanks for the photo buddha. The build is looking as beautiful as I had it formed in my mind's eye following your previous comments on it. I'm slightly green with envy.

  • To help with your original query, this stuff;

seems to effect enough of a seal on the tube to get you home. My friend, who rides nothing but tubs, carries it and a pre-glued spare. He's never had any trouble getting the tyre unfolded when I've seen him replacing a tub on the road, which backs up dmczone's comments.

  • how is that beautiful vintage Casati coming along Andy ? I imagine you will be riding tubs on that no? does anyone even make a clincher rim that looks old school? I have used tufao latex to good effect but for a long haul that pitstop looks like a good belt and braces approach

  • I'm going to build the Casati over Christmas. I have everything for it now, having picked up a pair of wheels, low flange Campag Record track hubs laced to a pair of Nisi tubular rims, last weekend.

Sounds just about right to me ..:)
Are Nisi rims chrome or black?
are you going to run veloflex tubs?
I presume being a bit of a 'roadie' you have run tubs before

  • The rims are black. I'd have preferred chrome I think but can always build these hubs up on a set of chromed rims later on.

I'll probably go for Veloflex although the price is a disincentive! I've tended to use clinchers since I stopped racing but for the track I think tubs are perfect so I'm prepared to put in the little additional effort that requires.

  • this bike is or the track? oh then only the best will do

  • Just thought I'd show my Pinarello road bike. I swap to tub wheels on group rides and Richmond Park.

Very nice indeed, although it looks like the frame is too small for you.

  • Correct. Still nice to ride though.

  • I understand that's your rain bike.

  • Beater.

  • Wrong. Terry Dolan is the beater.

  • Fold the tubular into a neat bundle for storage beneath the seat or in a bag. For a clean job, open the valve stem and start by holding the tire in two places and pulling it taut so that there are two folds with the valve stem at one. Holding it like this, lay it on a bench and ensure that the basetape is facing up. Carefully, roll the tire over on itself pushing out any air as you go. With a few tries, you’ll roll it up into a neat bundle with symmetrical overlaps. It’ll look so professional, you may decide to simply wrap it in the sports page of the Sunday paper and toe-strap it beneath your seat rather than stuffing it in a sock or bag. That way, your riding chums can admire your handiwork.

Does someone understand this well enough to explain it to me - I am sorry for being thick - but I think it is one of those things that makes obvious sense once you have seen it !

I understand it (what is being said topologically) would you like me to explain ?

  • Wrong. Terry Dolan is the beater.

    I would expect nothing less.

  • You've heard the Tony Bell story about Terry Dolan as well then ?
