If you are trying to do a no handed pop-up type wheelie...? then its all in your grip on the saddle if you know what I mean. Use your thighs. If you are trying to do a wheelie (regular) then its a combo of both pulling on the bars and pushing down on your leading pedal...
Hope that helps!
cheers - will wait till it dries up a bit and go and try - the reason i ask is because i'm finding that the less i pull on the bars the easier i can balance the wheelie.
the guys at trick track say that moving the saddle back on the post also makes a big difference, so i might try that as well.
i wish it would dry up!

I have recently learned to do that skid with a leg over the bars, can do it fine but can't get back on the bike after so the dismount is not too graceful!
Learning backwards circles too, can do a few rotations of the pedals then always start to lean really far forwards when you need to be back, any tips?

Cheers scott.
Right then, onto the tricks!
What kind of gear ratios do people run? I think I was using a 52/23 last week to learn wheelies, but now I've put a more permanent cog on so I'm running 42/16. I'm not sure if this is going to make it harder for me to learn wheelies or whether I just need to HTFU!

i've got about 57gi to try wheelies - i find a lot easier to pop with this than my commuting ratio. but sometimes i think that a heavier gear ratio will mean you'll be going faster and it'll be easier to balance.

The other thing I was thinking about was whether anybody uses a 26" to trick on? It seems to me that it might be a good idea 'cause the wheels would be stronger.
-
• #32
Or mabe 20" wheels as they'd be stronger still. Maybe a freewheel as that'd make certain things easier too?

was that really neccessary? I was just asking a question that was on my mind and hoping for a reasonably sensible answer.

Hilbilly speaks the truth.
Was it necessary: Definitely not.
Was I being a cunt: Yes.
Is that out of the expected range of my comments: No.Seriously this forum is full of isstakers. Just accept everything people post with a pinch of salt.

Ouch.
Only if you're the short fat bloke and hillbilly can be the wench that looks like Cherie Blair. -

I use a 26 on the front, once the tire is on it works out the same size as a 650c... the next bike I get will have 2x700c wheels. Just waiting for the right one to come along.

Point and case.

Andy, surely some of your bikes are 700c front and rear?

Ive just learnt to pop no handed wheelies, its pretty dope except i cant wheelie for more than like 3 meters so its not so hot.

any hints - just trying outside now and can't - struggling to actually hold the saddle with my things.

I switched my polo bike around yesterday to a new frame and noticed that saddle choice is a large part of pop-ups/no-handed anything.
The flite style saddle on now is rubbish as like Andy said, it's all in the thigh grip.
Turbo style FTW.

No offence was taken by me...and i certainly wasn't on my high horse...doesn't make enough of a difference to me.
But you did come across with some attitude which to me was a bit uncalled for.
But...i do apologise to you and i should have read the trixie thread,as you obviously have researched it.
Like i say i have no problem with what you're doing.
Good luck with it man!
