  • Sitting in the redchurch outside BLB...

After 1hr 40 of looking, discussions, options and bit of negotiation I'm about to buy
Cream BLB frame = £199 (price increased!)
Black Sugino 75 chainset = £265 (price fking increased!!!!)
    Phil Wood BB = £105
    Cane s8 headset = £30 - i think that's the only bargain?
    Stem = £20
    Soma tyre = £35

So 600 hundred and the rest...rest of stuff is coming from my old bike...

Does that sound right...a decent deal? Well, guess I'm committed really, gone for a beer whilst they fit BB and headset.

    So wise buy or shafted?

  • It's the weak pound innit?

If it rides sweet, and you love it, it's worth every penny - inspite of what all the posts below this one say about how you could have built something ten times better for 9p.

  • and they say there's a recession on..

  • how much are the paul cranks in there?
    I swear they're cheaper.
other than that, that pricing seems standard nowadays.
Blb have increasingly impressed me the past couple of times i've been in there, price and helpfulness wise.
not that my opinion means shit.

  • I just got my Bareknuckle which was supposed to be £450 and is now £485 so dont feel too bad.

Those BLB frames are nice too. Recession . . .pah!

  • p.s. the cranks sound expensive!

  • If they've started installing stuff and there's no turning back you could always keep the frame, BB and headset and get the rest online? You'd save a few quid but not that much. I'm guessing you want to be up an running asap so do whatever you want mate. Enjoy the pint. Enjoy the ride.

  • I was thinking the cranks are 'spensive. Give Will at HubJub the money. :)

  • well the recession doesn't affect my team of 12 year old, crack addicted child prostitutes, supply and demand n all that, they work hard and i can afford the finer things....

i went in there thinking messenger chainset and bb, came out realising it MAY be a false economy...or i've been had....

i looked at the paul stuff, very sexy, about £180 in black i think? they'v got a fair bit in stock....

  • £265 for the Suginos - You can buy Royce track hubs for less.

  • so 265 is too much? i can get older stock in silver for 200, but black would really make my build.... and i can't see 165 length, sugino 75s in black with 46t anywhere!

  • I have brand new Sugino 75 crankset, bb and chainring that I might be able to do you a deal on..

  • Tokyo fixed gear have black 165mm for £147 and Will would do you a black Zen ring for £55-60 let alone SG75 ring

He says out of stock but I'd ask him..

(They are definitely IN STOCK at hippy's bike & midget emporium)

  • I have brand new Sugino 75 crankset, bb and chainring that I might be able to do you a deal on..

What colour, how many 'TEETHS', and how much?

  • how much for a midget? i guess you pay more the smaller they are yes, if i went for a 46 inch?

  • according to BLB;

    "
**A quick note: As everyone is aware we are amidst unstable markets - the pound keeps falling against the dollar and there is no immediate sign of a recovery. Most of our imports are priced in the dollar - and many more come directly from or via the US which has subsequently resulted in higher than usual prices.

We're trying our best to keep a lid on it all - but like most, we're taking each day as it comes. Prices continue to change daily, but we're doing our best to absorb any dramatic shifts.

In the meantime, we are then unable to guarantee any prices currently listed on our web site, or previously issued in the shop. Any changes are an honest reflection of the recent increased costs we have incurred."**

By golly he's right! Only round the corner. They're open quite late too. Opposite the bagel shop. Do it!

that's £125 more than I paid for a new one in May 2007

just goes to show the shift in popularity and the weak pound.

tis about the same $ price - the £ has gone from $2.04 to $1.48 (around 25%).

    (£125 is 25.7% of £485)

  • time to buy British then..

  • aye. quick tip, if you're selling anything on egay - let the european's bid too.

  • Mno?

  • (Money No Object?)

I would shop around dude. I saw some of those bits go for a fraction of cost on Ebay - may be a weeks wait -- but all in all you'll save a fortune - or be able to buy ALL new spangly nice bits for the same money....
