  • In a sense, yes.

  • I'd argue the toss.

  • They were dissed by association. I'll toss on your argument.

  • I do a similar 14 mile commute every day, which i've been doing for the last two years. I had assumed the same sort of things as you, in that cv would increase, and weight loss would occur naturally as i got used to the commute and picked up the pace.

In realility, the cv benefit is negligable, as you just don't do a big enough distance to improve your fitness. And i'm actually the same weight as 2 years ago, and the 5 years before that.

In short. 14 miles just dooesn't make any dfference. If you want cv and weight loss, by all means this is a good start, and maintins a current level, but it won't dramatically push you forward to these goals.

Balls. It's better than fuck all exercise (sitting on the tube) and if you push yourself it's a good 50mins-1hr of exercise everyday.

How can that not make a difference?

  • In a sense, yes.

    Explain how, please.

  • ^^Association is open to interpretation. Your argument has tossed off.

    what argument?

read my posts, I have been asking BMMF to explain his comments, there's no argument.

was i dissing the organic swede by having it in the same sentence as a 4x4? but I wasn't dissing the 4x4 either, maybe it was the association with nimhbus he objects to?

  • Explain how, please.

Well, in a completely made up sense, or as explained before, by association. By implying that nimhbus buys organic swede at Waitrose, you've painted a rather grim picture of the kind of person that does that kind of thing.

It would be like suggesting that dogsballs enjoys Keralan cuisine and rides a 531 frame, and then being surprised when other people who enjoy those things feel affronted.

Surely the organic swede and Waitrose were being held up as things to which people might aspire (rightly or wrongly).

    haha!

I see, thanks for the explanation, I certainly don't want to offend.

and we all know dogsballs wouldn't know keralan from klingon, a swede from a sweatband or a turnip from a turd.

  • Yeah but he does know that 531 is awesome!

    who doesn't !

  • For me:

    Pros - £12/w saved, Quicker

Cons - Needing a change of clothes on a wet day & cleaning the bike when I get home.

Wrong. Weight loss is simply calouries burnt > calouries in. I lost plenty of weight when the only cycling I i did was 14 commuting miles a day across London

  • maybe he wasn't riding fast enough, and then stuffing his fat, greedy face with shitty junk food all day?

Fair point. Then again, everyone is different in make up. What works for one may not work for another. Just because i remain a fat bastard does not mean others doing the same distance wont reap the rewards.

Nope. It's all the booze i drink, rather than the food i eat.

  • I'd just like to set the record straight here by saying that :

    a. I don't have a 4 x 4 car. I have a golf. it is small.
    b. While i do go to Waitrose, i am unlikely to purchase swede there, as i have a veg box delivery.
    c. i do like their stuffed vine leaves though, and their range of ale.

  • Booze is food, isn't it?

  • Guinness certainly is

Meh, my comment was directed (badly) at BMMF (and in josh).

  • i'm a newbie so forgive for buttin in - tube sucks - does anyone else feel like they are suffocating when they use it? riding to work is the best wake up ever! best part of my day... is that bad?

@whiteleg: stick your shirt in a plastic bag - stops it creasing up too much - same goes for anything else you iron

    a. I don't have a car, so I win :p
    b. I just cancelled my organic box delivery after years of good service, as they suddenly felt obliged to deliver at 5.40am, waking the toddler, and being unable to appreciate the logistics of property access on an inner-city council estate; and losing the ability to communicate effectively anymore :(
    c. Waitrose treat their employees better than the other big players, but the range of ale is a bit shit at our local branch.

I had stuffed vine leaves once, fucking nice. I didn't know you could get them in supermarkets, how urbane.

I still haven't had sushi, though, I've been meaning to for about 20 years
