  • anyone that stands by and watches a child drowning should go to court, simple really.

the parents should know that their child could be alive today

Jeez this threads gone a bit Daily Mail. I would suggest you look up the article about the special Cunstables standing by the lake. I don't think it is as clear cut as people make it.

That being said special Cuntstables are indeed cunts.

  • because if they invest it well they make more to spend on improvements and programs, with out raising taxes. it makes scene to invest tax rather then spend it straight off. The best policy would be to use the interest gained on investments for most programs, and costs, only touching Principal for large projects.

they should invest it in high interest safe investments ... apparently Icelandic deposits pay well

  • Or at least take their foot off its head.

    exactly! every little helps

  • I was sat at the lights on the Old St roundabout last week.......next to a Copper on a BMW motorbike.
The 3 cyclists in front of me/us decided to jump the lights......when there was no traffic coming....but neglected to look over their shoulders........so the Bacon put his siren on, slammed da Bimmer into gear and stopped all 3 of them in the MIDDLE of the roundabout.....holding up the traffic....which was amusing!
    Remember....Mirror......Signal......Manoeuvre!

  • Just curious as to what would happen should you decide to not stop if a copper wants to pull you for you jumping a red...

When i got pulled the police car was off the side of the road with both officers out and i was shifting pretty quick, reckon i could have put a couple of hundred yards between me and him before the blue lights went on.

Would they bother chasing you down?

    Hefty fine?? Arrested??

    Who's tried it?

    Ta

    Bobs

  • might work, but you would want to make damn sure that you weren't caught.

of course you might also get shot as a terrorist.

    You get shot (probably)
Its easier and safer to get away from the tools on cycles, done that a few times without any comeback. Just need to be faster thean them , which aint too hard, and ducking down a few one way streets the wrong way helps too

  • Some CSOs tried to stop me today, I just rode off..

  • do you know why?

  • Just curious as to what would happen should you decide to not stop if a copper wants to pull you for you jumping a red...

I just tell them I couldn´t hear them.

a win-win for me, sometime having a disablities can be useful.

  • http://www.chiltern.gov.uk/site/scripts/documents_info.php?documentID=48&pageNumber=2 if you go to tis link it gives a rough idea on what they actually can do!!! bunch of jobs worths!!!!

  • I'm not sure that PCSOs have designated powers to stop cyclists, except for cycling on pavements.

I was on the pavement to be fair, for all of two seconds.. He gave me the 'its an offence' bullcrap. Saw them fining a guy for riding on the pavement, thought 'Im not getting fined for being on the pavement for two seconds' then fight or flight kicked in haha. He tried to grab me as well.

  • i like this passage 'Power to search property in matters relating to terrorism (with a constable)'.....'puppet and string' spring to mind!!!!!!!!

  • disregard - need to get my 5 nursery posts

Why? No exciting threads which you can find out info/ ask your question on / sell whatever / announce whatever?

  • You'll get into trouble.

  • disregard - need to get my 5 nursery posts

If you cant think of anything usefull for your 5 nursey posts what diference is it going to make afterwards?

disregard-I have done my 5 nursery posts but still couldn't think of anything to say.

I was going the wrong way down a one lane road years ago, and a Police van stopped at the bottom and signalled me to get off. I kept going and turned at the next intersection, heard the siren go on, etc. but I made some quick turns (in Soho) and hid behind a corner for a couple minutes.

Failing to stop is now an arrestable offence; so you'd be in the nick for half a day and get a few hundred quid fine. If they catch you.

  • and if you rant about it on the forum i will not cry big tears for you :)

  • more plod along bishopsgate this morning - standing about twenty yards down the road on the southbound side from the lights just noth of Liverpool Street, and then two more just past the major junction about two hundred yards further on. Pulling people for jumping red lights whilst ignoring pedestrians sprinting across in front of traffic...

  • About 2 weeks ago I was cycling along Bishopsgate, and, as I rode past Liverpool street, I went through a set of traffic lights (at a speed of 10-15mph) that had just turned to orange but - in my opinion - had definitely not turned red.

As I went through these lights and arrived on the other side of the cross-roads I was pulled over by a policeman, along with two other cyclists. He said that his sergeant on the other side of the lights had seen me "jump" a red light. I maintained that I'd cycled over the designated stopping line on an orange light, and did not want to brake sharply as this could have caused an accident behind me. Also my knowledge of the Highway code states that you can continue through on an orange light if it is dangerous to stop suddenly.

The policeman issued me with a £30 fine (payable within 28 days). He said that if I did not pay this fine within 28 days I would be taken to court. I asked if I could see the CCTV footage to support my claim that I had not jumped a red light and he virtually laughed in my face. I also asked if i went to court and lost the case what would happen then?
answer - £180 fine plus court fees...
next question - if i went to court and won?
answer - you won't have to pay the £30 fine!
So that's a really fair judicial system isn't it! no compensation for falsely accusing me / wasting my time?!

Please can anyone answer this - is it within my rights to see CCTV footage of that incident, and if so can this be achieved before the 28 days is up? Presumably I would then have to take my evidence to court.

I BELIEVE WE CYCLISTS SHOULD STAND UP FOR OUR RIGHTS - DON'T PAY THE FINE IF YOU KNOW YOU ARE BEING WRONGLY ACCUSED!

  • You need to talk to a lawyer, not us.

But good on you if you fight this.

  • Never stop for a copper, that's my water-tight legal advice.
