Skidding is never going to be a great method of stopping.
However you can try a method I believe to be called 'skipping'
You engage skid, lean backwards into it putting pressure on the trailing pedal, bounce up & repeat.
It kind of stopps you a little betters, and reduces tyre wear compared to the other way.
