  • This is the plan , organize a ride from Ugley in Essex to Twatt in Orkney on fixed wheel bikes next year in June. Need someone to help organise it all and try and raise some money for charidee.
Let me know what you reckon .Its about 600 miles. It could be special.

  • I'm in... I might be able to raise a Canadian Ugley Twatt charity team by then... or something

  • .

  • There's a (Great) Cockup in the lake district. You could do Cockup - Twatt.

  • Yesss! I was looking for a place named 'Hairy', but Cockup will do nicely...

  • Amended spelling .....I'm looking forward to this .The east coast of Britain is less Hilly too, so all good . Route needs careful planning, taking interesting stopovers and cycle friendly roads .I like the idea of Dawn providing us with a cool charity to fund raise for.

  • This sounds splendid, I look forward to the meet next week to hear more of the plans...

I'm interested in seeing the t shirt/cycling jersey designs for it too...

This really could be a HOOT

    H-Tonk from H-Town

  • holy mother of *, i heard you talk about this but didnt realise how huge it is....surely thats like atleast 700 miles. Fixed? crazy mofos.

I might be up for it if money allows. What gearing you all going for cause up north its gonna get hilly as fuck.

  • It's actually not too bad on the east coast , will require huge funds and the ability to sleep in an old horsebox with Will snoring in your face .

  • a horsebox....is Will gonna drive?
funds for food etc, or charity?

  • Something like that

  • Ok so looking at 750 miles for the route see map here:

    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Ugley+%4051.936698,0.210629&daddr=skegness+to:A1031%2FMablethorpe+Rd+to:A1031%2FSea+Dyke+Way+to:grimsby+to:B1238+to:B1244%2FSeaton+Rd+to:scalby+to:A174%2FWhitby+Rd+to:B1269%2FRedcar+Ln+to:A178%2FCoronation+Dr+to:A1086%2FCoast+Rd+to:sunderland+to:A68+to:perth+to:56.571589,-3.713379+to:A9+to:inverness+to:thurso+to:twatt&hl=en&geocode=Fbp9GAMdxTYDAA%3B%3BFexkLgMd1mIDAA%3BFfjtLwMdQrgAAA%3B%3BFYLhNAMd0jr9_w%3BFWiaNgMdZDX9_w%3B%3BFfxlQAMdQOHy_w%3BFfYuQQMdFtfv_w%3BFaJKQgMdsrrt_w%3BFUZGQwMdUors_w%3B%3BFXzITgMd6ijZ_w%3B%3B%3BFdJnYwMdtEu__w%3B%3B%3B&mra=dme&mrcr=5&mrsp=15&sz=6&via=2,3,5,6,8,9,10,11,13,15,16&sll=56.182254,-0.571289&sspn=5.824044,19.577637&ie=UTF8&t=p&z=6

So that is approx 1600 miles for the support veehickle so @ 15MPG and pound per litre we get 484 squids.

I assume Angelo is OK with being the main trucker? Others can switch out here and there.

Will we need to pay for campsites? Well probably need a shower or two.. Depending on how rough we are, camp shower bags on top of the trailer work ok too.

I imagine food and water will come to say 20 quid a day max?? so that makes 240 each (but most of us have to eat everyday anyways!)

As for time we are looking at approx 10 days riding plus 2 driving back.. and tack on a couple extra days for frolic in the meadows with a group of young attractive girlies on bikes! okok getting side tracked..

Provisional dates are June 13 to 28 ish. how does work for all interested? I guess we need to get all potential riders to look at this eh?

Do we really need to do the charity thing? maybe some type of fundraisy event for a boost? Polo BBQ?

If we are a go, a couple near 100mi training rides would be a good idea, maybe team up with team bogey?

OK its on the table so lets finger it ooot!

  • i say we do a cambridge-london-brigton ride or something for practice thatll only be like 150 or so....but will add confidence and realise that it isnt just a piece of cake.

Can we have some ropes tied to the car so we can skitch? Also I think we can all bunk in like a tenna or something to get some walkie-takies.....theyll keep the fun alive on the trip and the need to shout if you got a puncture.

im up for it...by summer ill have some nice (true) wheels to run.

We've been doing 100+ miles in one day for the last few summers .
You'll have to translate your yoof words like "skitch"
and mobiles are widely used these days

  • skitching

and walkie-talkies as in radios. They are always on (like police/taxi radios) and what you say everyone on the same wavelength hears

  • you said walkie takies, which i feared was a man love thing .

  • in a couple of weeks, probably weekend of the 6th/7th/8th March, i am planning a longish ride out to the country, fixed, for a camping stop over. There may be some of my 'posse' coming along, from the camb-pari trip. All are welcome to join us! You will need a pannier of some sort however, as you will need tent, cooking utensils, food, sleep bag, etc for one/two nights.

There has been mention of a lone driver meeting us at a pre-designated place with our kit, if this is possible then it would obviously mean fairly easy going. Any volunteers? If anyone fancies it, i have a tandem with pannier gear that is screaming out for two capable riders!

  • hmmm.....im gonna be busy that weekend, and i dont know about others but im gonna be down for the london ride on the 7th march
All my course deadlines are on that week as well so there is no way i can miss out two days.

maybe the weekend after that (14-15th) and ill be totally up for it.

  • Also, if anyone wants to go for a ride TODAY

I am gonna be doing my usual Cambridge - Ely - Cambridge ride which is like ~30miles or so.
Cycle up there, enjoy the view and come back.

We need as much practice as possible for the big ride, so this is a chance to start. Im gonna go somewhere closer to the evening so say 7ish 8ish

  • *no one riding tonight then?

  • 14th/15th is a do er. i'll book it in my diary. have a basic route planned - basically we go NORTH from town, all the way to the Wash. Lots of camp sites there! 50 miles or so. Sign up if you fancy it...

Cambridge - The Wash, Overnight Cycle Ride, 14th/15th March

    1. Bogey
    2. ....
      etc
    1. Bogey
    2. Eddie

sweet! do we need to bring swimming gear? :)

  • Harv, you are actually mental....although i must say loving the concept ;) good luck guys!

  • you are too kind Tom :)
