I used to live near uxbridge when I were young and regularly visited family there until about 1 year go. Is it really that shit? I thought it was a reasonably nice/posh place?!
Nah! It's not that bad, It's just a bit of a suburban nightmare. There's nothing to do here. I grew up in suburbia in California and it was the same deal. Once your past 18 years old it becomes mind numbing. Now I'm 39 and have been numbing my mind on purpose for years. Suburbia has it's purposes, but not for me. I'm only here because The NHS is paying for all of my tuition and accommodation. So I really cant complain.

Hippy was it Royal's you went to. Ultimate shit club, Jordan used to be a regular apparently. Good place to go if you fancy a fight.
There are a few nicer pubs out towards Iver, also a pub on Packet Boat Lane that I remember was alright but not cheap. Can't vouch for bike friendliness though. Although I dislike where I live now it still beats Uxbridge.
Don't think so.. something like Aqua or Oblivion or some faux-rave toss.

Hey Elguapo, are you the guy I was talking to earlier beside the pavillion? Just realised there's another guy with a Langster at Bruenl too, unfortunately I do live on campus, and yes, mines does have to spend the night outside, we'll definitely have to get a regular ride sorted out. Look forward to hearing from you guys =D

Go to the residency office and ask about the bike shed, I'm pretty sure there is one for every lot of halls. Is yours the langster with not bar tape at the moment?
-
• #60
Yeah that one's mine, got annoyed with the rain getting absorbed and stinking, decided just to get a decent pair of gloves instead. I'll go tomorrow and ask about the bike shed, though to be fair, the shelter tends to be doing a pretty decent job, thanks for the advice though, appreciate it.

Fuck em! I keep mine in my room. They will have a fight on their hands if they try to get me to park it outside! I take the front wheel off and hide it in my closet on Fridays, in case the cleaning people come in. But I dont let them come in my room either! I wrote a letter to the school telling them I didn't want cleaning people in my room and they said it was fine. As long as they could do a room check at an arranged time. I think they all think I'm a bit mad (I am) I even requested that they let me put my own full size futon bed in my room instead of this Dorm room thing! They said yes! Who would have thunk it?

I live in Harefield which is a good spitting distance from Uxbridge (with the wind behind me I have to say..)
Harefield for those who don't know is the place the world passed by- I mean where would you go to get a haircut and the guy in the chair IS Farmer Giles on about his tractors!
I'm not sure if you know but roadies turn up at Shane's Nursery on Sat/Sun @ 9.30 and trundle out on club runs- Sat is to Boutler's Lock via a circuitous route, optional Winter Hill @ Cookham and do-able on fixed although Harvest Hill is steep and there's a dead stop at the bottom.
Other rides at 10.00am on Tuesdays and Thursdays but more for geared bikes, or expert fixed riders- same for Sundays too.
Yes I do still ride fixed - learned Time Trialling many years ago on that, still ride the Track- Welwyn/Manchester/Newport/Calshot, occasionally HH. Ride road & TT bikes and MTB's.
Don't ask how many bikes I have- ever!!! Death is swift...

I'm the other side of the A40, in Harefield. Close enough to know Uxbridge=poophole.
Ex-harefieldite here. Worked at Deluxe Labs up until recently. Still pop up there every now and again.
Nice countryside for cycling, shame about the locals. Had regular abuse from the moped-pikeys.

Cheee-rist, not another! Greetings- where about are you? I'm just off Park Lane- between the Coy Carp and the King's Arms.

now I know of a couple of others in the first road off Park Lane going up the f-ing hill too.....
-
• #69
yes to living just off Belfry Ave....will now be spending lots of time cleaning my bikes....

I've done the other way on- so to speak! I got on the tow path at Aldbury and ended up at Ricky Aquadrone- nice liddle caf in there now.
Riding into London could be interesting, but its maintaining the interest factor getting back home again without doing the return leg on the same route inwards ie a circular route.
I know there's canal's round Old Street, and where there's a canal there's a tow path.
BTW my short route is from Park Lane down to Coy Carp and off road through the lakes to the Old Uxbridge Road and keep on there until hop onto the main road, then off to the left at Denham Green into the Phygtles into Denham then trundle round to the Swan & Bottle in Ux and hop on the tow path there, back up the tow path 'til after the caf, then through to the Marina and then onto the road doing a left and then first right and back on the tow path to Park Lane, or cut off at Black Jack's and come up the f-ing great hill to the restaurant. Takes an hour at most.
Of course if the caf is open its got lots of cakes and things............
BTW again- the junk yard at Black Jack's is being cleared and there's a pile of old bikes of various vintages down there, as well as an old JCB/Commer lorry/etc/etc/etc, it was fascinating junk- included a canal weeding amphibious craft- gone now. I think the guy who was there has moved on
All in all, a very unusual area.......

Yes, that's the start point for (one of) my club, Willesden CC as well as Team Quest training rides. 9.30am Sat and Sun and there's some guys doing an earlier 8am (I think) ride on Sats now. I was out with them last week. Damn it's wet in the Chilterns!

Moog and Mc_Nebula are still out here though, but Moog will be away for the summer and i'm guessing the same goes for Mc_Nebula, i'm sure there'll be a few more in September with a bunch of new people coming to Brunel.
