...and i've made a few mallets before and this is the best way ive found so far to getting the pole in straight and perpendicular to the tube... i wrap the tube with graph paper (fucking sad) you can mark where the hole is on both sides... ie drill one side first then the opposite. i also pilot all my holes first.
While you have the grid paper on you can also work out a pattern if you want.
but saying that the very first mallet i made now belongs to brain flick and i believe is still going strong. which i litterally drilled 2 holes to make.
oh and another tip to saw the gas pipping straight... i use a roll of celotape to help mark out the line. Mark then put the tube through the celotape roll and push against the roll and the tube so its flat against the outside of the tube, and mark. Also when sawing i go round the tube in little turns which helps to get the edge straight (as long as you follow the markings)
im gonna make another mallet the week end so i'll pic TFU.
