Better than a capped end for shooting straight: a guide of sorts so you know when your mallet is straight. Ray uses a chopstick under the wrap, some have carbon ski poles which are 'aero' and will give you a sense of where the mallet is without looking at it. I personally don't bother, it's just another thing to think about...
