Here's my bike, couple of things changed since I last posted it. Swapped the drops for risers, got some double straps.. that's about it. Crashed it a few times!

Hey, new to fixies and a skint student so budget for my bike is limited. Managed to cobble this together for about 70 quid with a lot of help from a more knowledgeable mate.
Hoping to learn a bit more and build a better bike as and when cash allows.
Oh yeah, this is me.

the rear wheel isn't a freewheel is it?

That's my favorite bike on this page (i'm going to get horrible rep for this).
Cheap and happy cycling!
It just needs an old style San Marco Rolls or Brooks B17 saddle IMHO

Alex, I really like that, honest build.
Reminds me of my first holdsworth build.

no not the Brooks B17, it made the bike look less racey, even a black Charge Spoon saddle still look nice on it.

Will overlook the BMX bars, in a nice mood today (for now).
What gearing are you running at the moment? Doesn't look too harsh. But then it is a non-drive side shot ;) -

cheers man, glad it's not taking a beating!

it did have a knackered brooks saddle on it that i wasn't feeling, let the guy who helped me sort the bike out keep it in payment for a couple of bits and some labour
like the look of the san marco regal, think that'd keep a nice line between a classic looking seat and a racey profile.
really enjoying riding it, still set up as a freewheel till i get some toe clips or clip in pedals. they're next on the list with the nice saddle coming after that!

It's a 26inch street cruiser, the riser bars (they're not BMX bars) make sense as it's meant to be a play bike.
Gearing is 36/16 -

@ Tronics, your LBS (Local Bike Shop) will be able to do it if you don't have the tools. Or if you ask around there are often people with spare parts to but/tools to borrow, usually at the drinks nights.
When you say 'more forgiving', is the gearing you ride at the mo. hard work or too spinny?

In terms of gearing, you have two choices and a wildcard!
Fit smaller chainring, cost £10-£20
Fit larger freewheel, buy a shimano or ACS for £10-£15.
(It will probably have a 16tooth standard, look for something larger)If you cant be bothered to change gearing, and you just use it as a casual commuter bike. You can simply change tyres for some skinnies to lighten up the gearing a bit and reduce rolling drag.

erm........LCB, he's running a 36x16 which is spinny, i think he needs to go bigger on the front.

Gearing is 36/16BMX Bars: Ooopps. My bad. Ignore me!
Gearing: At 36/16 would give about 60GI ish on 26" tyres. Doesn't seem to bad for use on the street?

the knobbies are going to be causing a lot of resistance, put slicks on it, and it will feel better weather you change the gearing or not. (unless you take it off road lots).

few facts people.
1) these weigh a tonne
2) tyres are street tyres
3) can't run bigger sprocket on front as it wil hit the chainstay.
4) cruiser, not commuter! -

That's what I meant when I said it's a play bike.

I think that the 26" wheel dirt jumpers should organise a ride.
Looks awesome tho ^^^
Always loved that BJ. The black on black decals are quality.
