  • Sadly my bike is undergoing some maintenance at the moment so I might not make it down tomorrow (at least not fixed). My forks are causing me problems - out of line and also the steerer is not quite right. If anyone has any old 27" forks with about 175mm steerer then give me a shout...

  • Ask Andy at Park street bike ambulance or Rick when he comes back from holiday

  • hello I am new to fixed riding, have finished my bike recently and have been merrily cycling around cambridge getting used to it - love it so far. are thursday rides still going strong or has weather halted proceedings? would like to come along say hi!

  • We had 5 people out yesterday - so there's a good chance there will be a few down next week too. Bring some lights though, as it's starting to get wuite dark now...

  • cool i'll try make it for 6:30

  • yay! finally made it along last night. top ride, cheers folks.
hope the lasagna wrangling resolved itself - I'm now wishing I hadn't ordered that madras...

(... and it burns, burns, burns)

  • You will all be pleased yop know that soon I will have a bike again and I will be back out.. Ok the last time I came we didnt ride and we just went to the Maypole, but I will return...

  • OK - We did the Stow-cum-Quy run last week and Girton-(Smelly) Dry Drayton-Hardwick the week before and I think the Hills of Granham and Chapel were scaled the week before that. Something new or tried and true this week?

  • I think it's either a matter of pride that the route isn't decided until the last 10 seconds before we leave OR there is some kind of covert secret procedure to eliminate the possibility of being followed. Some of our members are in professions of a delicate nature that require they have to turn up an hour late with no lights or the wrong sprocket just to keep any potential surveillance guessing . Will and Jamie hit upon the novel idea of immersing themselves in diesel before they set off. Others have had to resort to more deliberate attempts to disrupt any predictability by breaking off parts of their bikes . Though obviously this can't be repeated too many times without arousing suspicion , it helps having a few spare bikes to break on alternate weeks .
The captain armband is now officially being used as a guide to recognizing the identity of person who might have a better idea of where we are going , but as the armband is bestowed to a new recipient 15 seconds before we leave, its use in route planning is minimal.
The lack of any discipline on the thursdays ride has been the subject of endless unresolved debate . I am of the opinion that we adopt the new "dutch " model of "free-riding" whereby once we can adhere to the "lawless, nihilstic deathwish" approach to cycling. This european modern theory states that it is statistically proven, you are a better road user you should cycle consciously trying to get killed and retrogradially following all aspects the highway code . This was piloted late on saturday night and findings proved taking a blind corner on the wrong side of the road was safer as it was statistically proved anyone coming in the opposite direction would probably be equally as stupid/pissed/dutch and both parties would pass each other harmlessly.

  • As long as we don't have to ride "free"... cos that might cause unnecessary chafing

  • i should relay pull my finger out and get my self along to one this week.
or i may just come down to the pub after.

  • OK - We did the Stow-cum-Quy run last week and Girton-(Smelly) Dry Drayton-Hardwick the week before and I think the Hills of Granham and Chapel were scaled the week before that. Something new or tried and true this week?

So the night I got my Fixie you rode through my village? I was riding it round a lot that night, it would have been a great coincidence. (although to be honest it was a single speed then)

Will have to come for a ride once I'm up to it.

    Jamie

  • To be honest I don't think many of us are up to it, but we ride anyway. Maybe it's the lasagne?

  • Oh and the Lagavulin...

  • Well if you're setting low standards then I think I'm you're man. If I'm over this cold by tomorrow then I'll be there.

  • The finest lowest standards carefully selected and brought to you every thursday. people are just turning up with a spoke , or a single chain link . Minimal or what ?

  • I'm really not feeling to well today, got a chest like a miner. Do you think I could perhaps just use interpretive dance to represent my fixie and me cycling?

  • Better some self harm and a bag of salt 'n vinegar crisps , always works for me

  • OK - apologies for not showing up last week. After a bout of insomnia I had clumsiness issues and vision problems on Thursday. I know that is probably normal for some people here, but I didn't want to cause any accidental death or dismemberment. Should be fine this week...

  • Didn't miss much . Lilly Cole joined our little outing on her new black Nagasawa , we all went round hers after and shot up watching Mash vids .

  • Sorry I didn't make it as well guys. I ended up with a chest infection and I'm still flat out. Look like shite. Priory this thurs so if I am healthy enough to go out then I'll be there so I'll be there next week hopefully. Hopefully healthy. Just in time for the last of any warmth to have sodded off.

  • I won't be posting in this thread about tonight's ride in case I jinx myself again... oops

  • Captain Anders' route :

Lagavulin shortage is a reflection of the credit crunch affecting thursday night rides, we'll be drinking Tescos own brand or Bells in the park soon.

  • I like the sound of Captain Anders, I might need a cape and some sort of power though. Hmmm... Lagavulin power?

  • Ive got my fixed done now :)...Out of interest do any of you guys ride a royal blue something or other with bullhorns, Seen the guy twice in the last two days, up Hills/Cherry Hinton road area. Looks very new and shiny.
