i still can't see what is "fixed gear" about these. they're just normal vans with bits of reflective tape stuck on the backs.

Yea I've seen them for like £75 quid - they last longer because the toe part is made of some super hard wearing fabric, pitty the sole is flimsy as shit and will last about 2 weeks. I love Vans (not for cycling) but this is bullshit, they'd get away with charging like an fiver extra but £70+ is fucking bullshit.
Just buy 2 pairs of Era's or better still some SPD's -

Is there a carbon-sole option?
-
• #62
I just stocked up on some Vans - Ryan Guettler Whip II's . A tenner less than the "Fixed Gear" model & way more comfortable with better heal impact absorbtion which is a major problem of most Vans shoes .

Weather's too chilly for vans, already. Get your winter boots on!

Why haven't they made a clipless vans shoe yet? I'd snap those babies up in no time.

'They' meaning [3]Ma3k on this forum, already have. Search for them! Then get your stanley knife out.
The comment about clipless pedals is probably right, but if you're going to use shoes for toeclips, shoes with so much flex (like Vans) feel wierd on pedals, to me. I like something with a bit of a shank in like these
or theseProper cycling shoes are the best, like these. They're Reynolds Innovation 'touring' shoes, you can nail cleats in if you want to, not if you don't. I just got mine and they're amazingly nice. Handstitched and made in Northampton, where, all you Dapper Dans out there will know, is where Real Men's shoes are made. And Ladymen, if that film Kinkyboots is anything to go by.
