I just fancy a change from English or American films and have watched only a few of the French/Italian films in the library. I fancy renting some, it's something to do other than look at the same old websites on the cold wet evenings when there's nowt but shite on TV (which is every day) - but I'm not sure what to look for.
Don't stop with French or Italian. While there are many great films from those two countries, today it is possible to explore far further afield.
Denmark has made some of the best films of the past twenty years. The Dogma 95 movement and films like Italian for Beginners and Festen as well as more "conventional" films such as Babette's Feast".
Mexico, Spain, Chile (Nine Queens), Brazil (City of God, Central Station) and Argentina have all made some excellent stuff of late as have the Russians - Brother and Brother 2 (its sequel to name but two).
