  • im planing on buying the miche pistard wheelset and the front is radial spoked. i know their for tracks but will they be ok riding on london streets?

  • Toby, the thing with forks is you can always cut them down, so the extra threaded steerer tube might not be a bad thing.
it infact should be fine, 102mm isn't threaded, which will be in your headtube.

    Cheers Mr Brows,

No issues with thread when cutting down? Any suggestions on decent cheap headsets, i'm hitting the bay.

  • In my front room at the moment:
The Dave Yates is being reconverted slowly to its former glory as a geared TT bike, a red track frame is slowly being built into a demonic track/ temp. Oxford bike (thanks trackracer), and a Monoc road frame is being built into an Ultegra/ 105 demon road bike for under £350, and all the bits have been assembled for the secretive build.....

hmmm, i don't have anyspace in the house anymore

  • Advice sought on campag record hubs: I've got a pair laced to tubular rims.
    Options:

    1) Keep the hubs and get new rims. (But are record hubs any good on the road)
    2) Sell off wheelset as tubs and build up a new pair of wheels.

Leading to: Would the wheelset fetch much as tubs?

    Cheers all.

  • this is bloody good work in my opinion. well done Pechacheli.

Think that frame was for sale on here a wee while ago, no? Was going for a good price if I remember, nice colours, would like that for my next project

  • tomasito - you may achieve better £££s if you unlace the hubs, polish them up (unanodised), and sell them seperately. should get 70+ easy. (add a tenner if are lucky enough to have a campag lockring)
If you sell them as tub wheels then you will get less / same, especially if they aren't shiny-shiny.
I was lucky enough to get some super-low profile clincher rims (NOS baby!) which replaced my Mavic GP4 tub rims using the same spokes. Ask roberto if he has anything.
I like my campag hubs, but you need to re-pack regularly if you use everyday - 2-3000 miles? its the price you pay for beauty.

I got offered some HF record hubs with tubs for £75 last week, so about that much maybe?

Rebuild them onto clinchers, and rebuild the hubs with plenty plenty good grease.

Or buy some cheapo tubs and carry a spare.

    Edit - Too slow

  • Alright, cheers both of you for that. I don't fancy running with tubs on the road and carrying a spare so that one is out. I reckon I'll go for rebuilding onto new rims then. The hubs are in nice and shiny condition:

  • tomasito - if you can resist the urge to skid then buy some Gatorskins and enjoy the matchless ride for a while...
    also carry liquid latex.
    and a spare tub.
    and some tub tape.

  • Prav, the cup is labled Campag mirage, I think it's a record so i'll want to remove it and find something cheaper... are they push fit? Ie. can I pull the bugger off with something..?

about to use mine for my commute tomorrow. ask me again in a mth time if you can wait that long. i go through some shtty roads. fingers crossed they hold up

been riding them between putney and herne hill. initial thoughts is that they are very stiff/harsh. but not that sure if it is just the wheelset or it's the overall change from switching over to a track specific alu bike from a steel conversion.

    im well hard core.

never seen a fixed/free option for the pistard but i think you can get freewheel cogs for track hubs.

  • but you can use the rear hub as a freewheel?

  • Excellent, I'll get one of those..

Are the bearing cups for bottom of headtube push fit? Old campag in there at present, can I just knock it out?
