For £25 I shall probably be able to send you a brand new set of SKS raceblades in sealed packet.
I have a friend clearing some stock from a bike shop, I shall go see if he has any left if people are interested.

Far from viable but delish nonetheless.

No those Honjos are not clip-on, they're for bikes with eyes on the dropouts. Anyway Salmons are nicer than those and half the price. Flat and understated.

I was thinking about getting a set of hammered guards and making up a set of fixings. For the rear banding onto the ST at the bottom, another connection on the brake bridge and something like the race blade setup for the rear most edge. Does this sound feasable?

Sounds possible, get drilling.

As an official spokesmodel for Decathlon I'm here to let you know that I think they stock the Zefal Shields which are possibly the Race Blade knock-offs spotted elsewhere.

The rubber bands they give away with all the 'removable' guards are shite- does anyone have any tasty re-usable alternatives to wasteful zip-ties?

Bullshit, not having guards is crap for the people behind you as much as for you. HTFU cannot be applied to the poor people you overtake.

How could I have got it so wrong? I hang my head in shame. Told. Gotta hand it to ya Skully....you knows your mudguards!

cheers for that. i only searched thread titles as i'm at work and didn't have much time to spare. think i'm going to go for some SKS blades from condor + gaffa tape and zip ties.
oh and i dig the schoolteacher/vicar look. i'm still on the look out for an old carlton frame to fit moustache bars and chrome mudguards on.

Are you trying to spark a Honjo v Salmon debate here? Eh? (not that I like the dimpled variety)

I thought you might turn up pipwish!
Naa I love those plain honjos too. Bloody expensive though. Salmons are so slender though, I just got a second pair for my mercian faudax.

there was a post a long time ago which gave a link to a french company that sold really nice stainless steel mudguards that were quite cheap. Have tried searching but can't find it. any ideas?

Went to Decathlon; the Zefal clip ons above are £16.99 but I picked up the Zefal Road set for £9.95.

BUMP
These look good; Crud have done some road guards with a few innovations over raceblades (brushes that skim on the brake surface to keep them centred and stop rattles) that look great for road/SS riding.
I don't know if they will work on rear of a track frame as they seem to attach to rear brake bolt, and only 180g for the weenies.

hope this hasn't been done to death recently (search didn't come up with much).
i was just wondering if anyone has come across a viable alternative to sks race blades? i saw some cheapo alternative versions in a bike shop in clah’m the other day that looked pretty good. the attachments looked more permanent and stable and they were in the region of £25. i just can’t seem to find anything that isn’t sks’ on the interwebs. any experiences or tips?
got nothing against sks btw. i just wondered if there were any better/cheaper alternatives out there.
cheers,
dooks.
