re: the South start: they have kids morning programmes at the cinema at that time too, wholly inappropriate to be hanging around there when we can pretend to be touts at the tube station.

Talking of supplies, what's everyone taking, assuming the Tools and tubes kind of stuff.

Thinking more about food and drinks

beer and crisps. maybe some pepperami.

bananas x 3, some sarnies, water. just about right for Cambridge so I'll try and remember what I put in.

Take some Jaffa cakes, spare tubes, pump, lights, spare t-shirt and plenty of water.

Pepperami sounds good too, although it has the tendancy to repeat a bit...

if you are going from rye do bear in mind the trains are only 4 coaches and not that frequent, if 35 of you try to get on at once the guard is going to freak.
depending on which way you go when you change at either ashford or st leonards (i think that's where you change? i always go to ashford) the trains will be a lot bigger.

if you decide to ride to ashford do not use the A2070 it's lethal, go appledore-kenardington-b2067-malthouse lane-birchet lane-ham st rd-ashford road- big roundabout at tescos 1st left not straight on dual carrigeway- then 2nd exit small rounabout(asford rd)-kingsnorth rd-into beaver rd-station.

i cant decide weather or not i should be doing this fixed or on a freewheel. i'm riding 42/16, and it'l be the furthest i've been in one shot by about 30 miles. I have no geared bike, so thats out of the question. any thoughts?
