Thems the ones that most people rave about on here. Haven't heard a bad word about them.
So under majority ruling, I'd say go for it. -

dont understand why you are all so obsessed with the ghey roadie style shoes.
especially as when you talk clips/straps everyone says Vans.
get something a bit more skate style and you will find you walk better in them.
should pick up a basic spd shoe for 20 bunts.(slightly less rigid sole, worse power transfer - negligible)
ps. didnt get on with time's. spds end of. shimano mp66.

Thanks for sharing Stir.
Do you have any tips on getting in / out of tight jeans? Or preferred wax for moustache grooming?
@ Sano - knew you were messin. But, hey, who (other than Em) doesn't like the odd smiley face eh? :-) :P ;^]

@ stir - I guess people just find they work. The trainer ones work fine as well. Ma3K has some Etnies (I think) that he's built clips into the bottom of. They look great and they work.
Vans slip on are the best for getting your feet in and out of clips and straps.
I'm not moving from one to the other, I'm keeping the straps and clips on my twatabout bike and putting clipless on my mileage bike.

Don't you have some superfluous tat to try and sell to people who definitely don't want it? -

I can't agree. I've seen Ma3k unclip using his homemade Van clipless hybrid things. But he's a good rider and can handle it. Vans slip on are not the best thing for getting your feet out of clips and straps. Old style cycling shoes are. For those who are too young to remember, they look like a leather version of modern road shoes, with a horizontal groove scored in the sole, for where your foot hits the pedal groove.
My first pair of "cycling shoes" was a pair of football boots with the studs removed and a home-made groove made with a file.
to answer the question why proper shoes, it's simple innit, they work best. No laces to get caught up, allows you to adjust tightness just right (whilst riding), you can use clipless pedals, and you get a good contact / pedal stroke.
ps. time atacs for me too. I rode SPD's until I joined the forum, and realised what I was missing.

From your post I can make out if this is irony or not. Therefore I'm going to employ a confused emoticon :S -

I'm currently trying some Look 'quartz' carbons on the storck....seem fine so far...but spring tension is probs too light for fixed.
After about 5yrs on original SPD's...a very brief and scary foray onto Onza H.O's....and the last 12 or so years on ATACS...it's nice to see a different pedal on one of my bikes...the quartz are sure purdy.
yum.

OK, real cycling shoes may be the best for getting in and out of clips and straps, but I'm willing to bet that 95% of the people who use clips and straps on the street do so because you can wear 'normal' shoes and ride your bike. With that in mind, in my opinion, Vans slip ons are the best for getting your feet in and out.
I think most people knew what I meant without going into the overly long explanation.

are your cleats properly adjusted? times dont do weird things unless the cleats arent in right. time pedals are king. KING. people need to take note and stop asking what pedals...
well, there doesn't seem much room for error with time cleats, there's not really any angle adjustment or anything?
I was thinking of getting these ones... Cheap and cheerful?
