I have lived in Camberwell/Peckham for 3 years now and have always used Edwardes, as have my flat mates and girlfriend with only good experiences. They are always helpful as long as you are patient and polite (I work in retail and this applies to most shops btw).
All I can say is if they don't have something and they can't get it for you all they can do is say that and tell you their opinion, which I think they are allowed to have. What do you want them to do? Lick your balls? It is a bike shop, not a make-up shop
