To be fair its not gonna be rocket science...
gonna cut a few lengths (the distance between the posts) of timber,
then mount them on the under side (gap) and cable tie like a mutha...not cover it just make it smaller than a ball. -
• #5
i reckon the width is like 1.5m to 2m max... not too long to carry on a bike.

just incase you don't know we did this for the last year's polo comp. and they got removed buy the council about a week l8er
-
• #7
need something more permanant than wood and cable ties. should ask council if they have left over fencing and go around the whole bottom properly
-
• #8
metal cable ties? the ones they use for road signs?
worth another go... Its gonna literally take me 5-10mins to do... 2 of the big holes... and see how long it lasts.

I thought only because the residents assoc. asked them to remove? So if its done with their blessing it should be ok

we should build a massive brick wall all the way round.like that Hadrian guy.

Good work Shitscab, getting in touch with Hester.
It does make sense though to look at a more permanent solution. Maybe we could suggest to Hester that we lobby the council for some cash to get a small rim built around the whole perimeter? Stop me if this route has been tried before ...

Hence photos and conversation... it is in the process of being blessed... 3 other gardeners/ community workers have to give the thumbs up(through email)... I have black cable ties here and if necessary will use black paint on the timber. Trying to make it less visible.

Trouble is they don't want us to damage the fence with anything too permanent... or the surface of the court... and as roxy has said before water still needs to run off the surface. I think the main issue is the rubbish/fouling and the balls going into their garden and us using our mallets to retrieve the ball (and damaging their plants, this was my argument) and i also suggest this would also stop a lot of litter going through into their garden.
Like Rakan says they are on our sides but have these constraints to deal with.

takes a bow... ta
Got the tape measure out last night and the side fences are 180cm and the ones to the top and bottom are 130cm...
Basically to stop the ball going through we could do this with 1" X 1" timber at those lengths
or as build pointed out....
Each section of fence is fixed by a hex bolt and can shift approx 2" up or down...(ie nut goes through a pill shaped hole) as a permanent solution we could ask if the council could shift the troubled fence sections down as far as they can go. (i am going to ask this)
One issue with this is that they may have to move all of the sections above as well...(this is a guess) as there maybe too big a gap above the moved section of fence.But... i will rig up the timber idea, take some photos of the fence idea
and see how it goes.

I think I should be alright.. found some 1"X1" in my building... and gonna nick some cable ties from here (work) jobs a goodn! No help needed.

• #20
make sure the council dudes know what we are doing or all the hard work will just get shunted into a skip
-
• #21
yep ta, only rigging one or two to start off with...show Hester (as OP) and chat about moving the physical fence sections, and see what she thinks. Basically for the permanent solution we need Hester on our side which she is. ;)

ok completely off subject, the geek is gonna be your everyday round town bike yeah?
Hey all,
Just spoke to Hester at north brick lane residents association... And discussed with her possible fixing methods for the holes under the fence.
As a first action I’m gonna rig up a possible way of solving the problem with timber (cut to length) and cable ties. I will photograph this, or even arrange to meet with her to see what she thinks.
I plan to do this on Wednesday (and miss NE/central polo:( ) this week...
If anybody else has any bright spark ideas let me know... And maybe we can try a few out.
I am also going to suggest to the council if they can put a fence mounted bin within the courts.
I probably only need one more hand on Wednesday... As im going to nip by there tonight to take measurements of the gaps in the fences.
