what i cant understand is ,you were all interested in finding out what this bike is like, i do one and now it gets slaged off, its funnf really, after all these years of cycling it still amazes me how stuck up most cyclist are, the humble bicycle lol, i built this as a cheap project for FUN, its not a top end super lightweight ,who gives a sh#t its got 2 wheels and rides great, and trust me ive ridden hundreds of bikes of all these years, i have no car license im 38 and have never stopped cycling, but still you come up against this snob culture, this was the reason i stopped racing 16 years ago, it wasnt about riding,it was about how light and how much your bike cost, i had high hopes for this site after reading this post, but now i see its the same as all the other forums, what amazes me is SS and fixed bikes are basic machines, and that what this is, ive just cleaned it up,
paulAnswer: it turned out to be a shit bike.

If the fixed gear culture, especially the LFGSS one were snobby, we'd probably slagged off people who doesn't even have a track dropout, if you have a Peugeot fixed gear conversion bicycle, you'd get slagged etc.
The unipack, is truly a shitty bike, we encourage first timer to find an old bike/frame and built it up (usually cost less than £200 and a million time better than the unipack), or even simply find a functional road bike, get a whole new rear fixed wheel built and simply shorten the chain (work for me), less than £120 and still better than the unipack.

+1
Listen to the Scoble !!
How did we arrive at this terrible conclusion, a quick look at the bike on a website ? Maybe we asked someone who rides one ?
No, we clubbed together and bought one and the feedback is that this is really an awful bike.
Are we snobs ?
Yes, without doubt.

pretty much, or even if you try hard, you could find a gem for £60 like this -
To this;
Yes it have a new crank and BB which add up the cost, because the old one was already fucked by me not being inexperience with bike, but the point still stand, find a cheap bike, remove certain part, get new rear wheel, and bob your uncle.
the final cost is - still cheaper than the Unipack even before it has been upgraded with decent compound.

nice
where's the cheapest place to buy chainsets and back wheels like on that peugeot have access to shit loads simalar frames
trade acounts?
flood the unipack off the streets you know what I mean! -
• #433
well, the rear wheel of mine cost me £90 as it was build by a lbs* and have decent hubs, decent rim, and was very light too (the whole bike is now noticably lighter than my Bianchi Pista which pissed me off a bit to tell the truth), but it possible if you find a rims, hubs and spoke yourself and take it to the bike shop to get it built, usually work out cheaper
*local bike shop.

I was in Brick Lane today & saw at least 5 Unipacks around the area . You guys have your work cut out .
I reckon there is a market for these things - To people that like the look of the cool FG/SS bikes, they see the Unipack as their only option as a new purchase . Wait till they start selling them in the Argos catalog as its only a matter of time -

The thing about the 'hipster' culture is that they tend to use old rubbish road bike and simply change it into a singlespeed/fixed gear bike with little or even no money.
Here's what i can't understand is why a HHSunipack is acceptable in the 'hipster' culture? especially when the whole hipster thing is usually buying old clothes from 2nd hand shop and end up looking rather fashionable, hence buying/finding old road bike and changing it into a singlespeed and end up looking really nice.

thats right folks, they have spread from the capital and have hit bristol... spotted, today, in redland, a black one with red wheels and a freewheel and a nervous looking rider.. i was driving with my dad and after my outburst of "you have got to be fucking kidding me" i had to explain.

Went through bristol recently for the first time in years, saw a guy with girls jeans, cycle cap & wayfarers pushing along a aerospoke equipped bike along.
I presumed 'fixed' was there in its totality.
-
• #439
sure it was arrowspok not a spin trispoke?
-
• #440
I really cant remember, tbh I made up the wayfarers bit. But a total maximum hipster type. Why was it you?

no but there is a new boy in town. unfortunatly that bike is no more... it might not be him anyway so i shant point the finger, he's a fine gentleman and forumenger. having said that, it could be someone else that i havent seen yet. there is a bunch of folk around, meeting more all the time.

might have been me. since theft struck, I ride a raleigh conversion. and a holdsworth.
yesterday i rode 74" up constitution hill (in bristol). until you've achieved similar feats, mr deadlyunipack, i suggest you run along and let the big boys talk.
the fixed apocalypse does seem to be arriving though.

Nice one PJ - haven't been able to do that one yet.
Another nice short burst is the climb up St. Michael's Hill to Cotham Brow - managed to barely do that one, and then had to rest for 30sec to catch my breath (running a 42x15 right now).
Are you ever on the Gloucester Road? I'm usually trucking up and down that way - Blue charge plug with White Deep Vs and arctic camo saddle. Say hello sometime.
-
• #447
gloucester road occasionally.
i also rode up the hill from ashton court (bottom gate) to the suspension bridge. that one really really hurt.
-
• #448
oi pj you are ticking off all the hills lined up for my bristolfixed hill climb day. i reckon i stillhave a sneaky one or two up my sleeve for when i finally get round to organising it. you'll still be at the top first with this sly practise you are getting...
-
• #449
steep hills and risers are a really bad combination.
when's hill day? we got to go up to dundry.
-
• #450
hmm dunno yet. in a few weeks on a saturday? gotta be either two weeks before or at least a week after the halfmarathon or im gonna fail at my own game. gotta be risers and hills, make your underarms and shoulders really squeal.

so far fetched it deserved two looks
