so I've read lots of the thread and gotten all excited. I especially like the ideas that are more theme based (horror, indy, world, porn) than all of one thing (rambo, police academy, etc..) but I'm def up for whatever, I love movie nights!!!
Tell Em she should get her dad's popcorn machine, if not I'll bring ours. But now Scot you gotta pick a theme and a date, don't leave us hanging... (how about a 'cliffhangers' theme)

I would have to say no to this as my attention span for films is roughly 1 hour 45 mins.
In fact running time is pretty much the main criteria for me when choosing a film, anyhting over 2 hours I have to watch in bits. I haven't been to the cinema since that Lord of The Rings, fucking thing traumatised me for life -

Don't worry Mike. I also fall asleep about 15-20 minutes into any given film.
It's going to take a lot of effort for me to stay awake. -

And Ichi The Killer is in the same vein, and a blast as well. Should be well appealing to you Object. :D
DAMN! livingsaleep, are you my psychic twin!!!!!!!!!!!
aside from the penchant for being a general fount of anorak-y bike information...
in between the awesomeness of old boy and battle royal, maybe we can sneak in some 2046, or in the mood for love for the laydees and to give people the chance for some shuteye.

livingasleep, I'm not sure if this is an in-joke, but I'm not a fan of piracy, as films cost money to make, and the film-makers have to take out bank loans for the production. My sympathies are with the film makers, because I love films.
Takeshi Kitano can have my money, as long as he keeps making films like Hana Bi, and Zatoichi. If I bought the pirated versions, he'd get none of it.
All I'm inferring is, that I really respect an artist's rights to full payment (initial and subsequent) for their work.

I mentioned this one to Scott and he looked at me blankly. Clearks will be the more difficult one to get hold of though. -

weee a debate on piracy!
I fully appreciate the fact that piracy takes away royalties from those that produce the content. And this is even more of an affront to the indie film makers rather than big Hollywood types. In the first world, where DVD costs are proportionate to salary, and pretty much anybody can buy a legal dvd to enjoy and any and all films are available for purchase.
My argument then is two-fold:
The disproportionate cost of legal films in third world countries
The availability of these films esp. non-hollywood blockbuster typesIn a third world Asian country, wherer 10 quid is equivalent to a few day's salary (granted dvd's only cost half that) that just isnt a viable option. Add that to the fact that a huge amount of dvd's arent even available in those countries, unless you only want to watch the big budget films. I would not have been exposed to Wong Kar Wai, The Vengeance trilogy, Clerks, or the rest the indie film industry had to offer if not for piracy.
I do believe though that piracy is a manifestation that our society is being propped up by a false sense of value. I myself however, have made it a point to buy legal versions of the pirated films that I have enjoyed over the years.

I suggest none of the films watched, at what will be this brilliant night in, be pirated!

I will bring a Swedish film (with subtitles), if anyone would like to see one. And no it will not be Ingmar Bergman (cause they are long and quite boring tbh).
