  • Not quite Wrotham Hill, that's just to the north (the main A20) where on Sunday I managed 37.6mph on 47x18.

  • that's pretty fast up that hill ;)

  • LOL. I climbed it (on gears) a couple of weeks back. From the very bottom roundabout to the very top one was 9 and a bit minutes.

  • no it's not.
    it's 4 days away
hippy, you are coming to manchester. did you know this?

It was 5 when he posted.. which is a working week.. which is a week. Eat arse.

I'm not sure about Manch now. I might be working part of the weekend yet.

  • I only listen to you Hippy.

    :-P

  • So hippy, what's it to be. Sportive or Canterburytive?

or Manchester sitting on winston's lap?

or showing my gf how to use our CMS for some urgent data entry bollocks that no one else can do?

    Feck arse and more feck.

  • My weekend full of 11 year olds just cleared up! Would very much like to replace it with this, but...
    I will be geared
    I am pretty darn slow
The muscle memory is still having issues

On the plus side I am pretty determined and go a very fun shade of pink. Is anyone else slow too, or is this not a good one to start?

  • i am a gifted descender too

horray! I've got someone to talk to!!

Then again the thought of me riding alongside might speed you up a bit fluff.....

come and do it if you're fairly confident you'll make it!

  • Right then. I've just been to physio and my arm is sore as hell, but if it shushes down before Sunday I'll be there. Yay.

Erm, hard to call seeing as I don't know your fitness, but if you're doubting yourself already then it's probably not a good one to start with. Kent is not flat, and if you're not capable of climbing on a fixed wheel at the moment then you will be doing a lot of walking.

  • I may have to pull out of this one for that reason. I've got a mate who was interested in doing a ride on Sunday, but I don't think he'll be able to handle this route. Or he might manage it, but it won't be much fun for him. So I might ride to Cambridge with him instead. Have a good one guys.

well I will be geared and have done 40 odd miles around kentish hills before, but this is why i asked, as i really don't want to hold anyone back...

  • Ahh, gears. What you lose on the climbs you'll be able to make up on the descents :0)

  • all comers welcome as always i say. but i think everyone has to take a little responsibility for like having a copy of the route if they really struggle or be prepared to bail if they are not up for it. mainly these rides are social but of course this ride is a fair way and with some ups and downs. looking forward to it. it's all gravy

  • no this time fellas, I have compromises with my other half.
have fun and don't get to late in Canterbury, remember beer time

  • Yes, gears I'm afraid. I'm not ready for climbing fixed and have just got a pretty Surly I want to enjoy more. If I come I'll bring my social pariah hat.

And ta for the advice, I'll print out all the maps I need. Just want a long day cycling somewhere pretty really... good company a bonus if I can keep up :)

  • can anyone enlighten me on how this ride compares to the Brighton ride a while back?? seriously thinking about it, my weekend's cleared up.

Obviously wasn't on the Brighton ride, but know the route. This will be tougher with a lot more climbing.

i think everyone has to take a little responsibility for like having a copy of the route if they really struggle or be prepared to bail if they are not up for it.

I do have a cheat sheet (almost) ready to roll, but it's fairly complicated due to the zig-zagging on country lanes to stay off the main roads. But I guarantee that you wouldn't get lost if you used it on your own (except for those who got lost on their way to Dunwich :0p ). Several mainline stations will be passed along the way fairly closely, so if people do want to bail I can easily point you in the right direction.

  • but i think everyone has to take a little responsibility for like having a copy of the route if they really struggle

Is there a way to print the route straight from bikely? I seem to be blind.

  • No, all you can do is take screen grabs and stick them into Paint or Photochop. If I find time I'll perhaps sort this out.

  • With 3 days left, I suppose it's time for people to start suggesting feeder rides down to Greenwich Park, unless everyone wants to make their own way there. I'll be there stupidly early as the train times up from Kent help me out diddely squat.

10am departure, no later. If people think they're cutting it a bit fine with the departure time they can always catch up (I'll post the cheat sheet at some point). Will also add my mobile to the numbers thread, but remember some of the other names on the ride list so you have more than one contact.

And if you're not exactly sure where the meeting point it, it's here:

  • PS I'll be there on the bike to the left, wearing a stupidly similar coloured top.

  • I have to come from Stansted early in the morning back to my place to grab my bike.

Probably cut it fine but I will be there.
