I do think a 'well done' is in order for the ordeal of childbirth though, including the father to a lesser extent for having to keep it together whilst witnessing all the pain. You get a stark insight into the lottery aspect of it all - doesn't matter which part of the world you live in, the spectre of death looms large in the prelude to new life. It is fucking scary stuff
My son got his cord wrapped around his neck after twenty five hours of labour they had to ciscerain section to have any chance of saving the boys life the doctor about to leave for theatre went looking for me and found me in standing in the linen cupboard praying to whatever fucking god I thought would listen just about the only decent thing I ever did in my life was to be 'there' every single moment of that day for my wife
